Mission:
Episode 20 - Reconstruction
Location: USS Galileo-A Deck 4, Mimi's quarters
Timeline: Md02 2100hrs
ON:
After several hours of level 1 diagnosticing the computer cores, several more of onboarding the new crew and several more on top of that of helping all 28 of them get settled into their new quarters, computer access settings, duty watch assignments and all the other boring but important parts of bringing new life onto the ship Mimi finally finished her shift and headed for her quarters, happy that with all the new people onboard she still had the entire room to herself. She took off her uniform jacket and threw it onto a chair, replicated herself a cup of tea and slumped down onto her sofa without spilling a single drop.
"Heya beautiful!" John called on the communicator. "Got a bit of time?"
Mimi smiled as John's voice came over the comm channel. "Hey, I do, I just got to my quarters, what is it?"
"Oh thought to hang out a bit. Talk, get something to eat or whatever. I need to ask something but not over the comm."
"Well why not come over here?" Mimi asked. "Do not have anything important to do right now."
"What do you mean nothing important to do right now?" John admonished her. "I think while we get the chance, there is a whole wedding to plan yet."
"I have been planning, you need to come and look at some of this." Mimi sent back, though the systems tests had taken up a lot of her time she'd managed a little planning.
"Good. Be right there, Give me five minutes." John cut the comm.
**6 minutes later**
John pressed the chime. "Sorry, got delayed slightly. Some new personnel half lost on the ship."
Mimi met John almost the moment the door opened standing up on her toes to reach up and kiss him. "Missed you." She told him. The preparations for the systems test and the test itself had kept them mostly apart for the last few days.
John entered and picked her up and swung her around before kissing her. "And me, you." He put her back down. "So what do you have so far?"
A squealing laugh left Mimi's mouth as John swung her around, when he eventually put him down she took him by the hand and led him to the sofa. "If Tarin lets us we can do it on Regula one, they have a lot of big rooms we can get all of the crew in, if they all want to come anyway, every one would be invited." She offered him the Padd she had been writing her plans down on. "I think mostly a human style wedding but I want to do some Nekomi wedding things in there too, like binding our tails together, though you don't have one so we could bind our hands together?" Mimi was talking fast, excited that their hopeful wedding day was getting closer.
"Hands is works for me. That reminds me sugar, are we doing this on the ship or on the station? I know Tarin said she was fine with it here. That reminds me, I've already asked Donald in Engineering for the best man. How about you? Thought about the wedding party?"
Mimi cocked her head to the side slightly, she had already mentioned doing it on Regula one if Tarin would let them. "The wedding party... my bridesmaids... I was thinking Jeysa and Nesh and I need someone to walk me down the aisle right?" She'd read that was usually done by the father of the bride but that was definitely not an option for her. "I think Allyndra would be best for that. I would want her to do the Nekomi parts, I can teach her everything she needs to say and do."
"That sounds fine." John reached out and gently took Mimi's tail. "Sure you don't want to do this the Nekomi way? The doc could probably put one on temporarily."
"You would look funny with a tail," Mimi said, her tail gently curled around John's hand as he held it. "I think hands would work well enough."
"Ahh..... Allright, hands it is. So Allyndra? Have you talked to her yet?"
"Not yet, a lot of us officers are busy with all these new people, I do not think I have sat down all shift." Mimi turned in the seat and put her legs up on John's lap. "I will go and see her tomorrow."
"Yeah. Hopefully this time, we will get a bit more time than a quick slap and dash off to someplace with a hardly tested retrofit ship." John ran a hand down her leg. "So how's the new arrangement working out?"
"I still have this room all to myself, so you can stay as long as you want." Mimi replied with a slight purr in her voice then her nose began to twitch as a very familiar scent closed in on the door to her quarters.
---
Meanwhile, things had not been going very smoothly for the green-skinned Orion female since the systems' test. Nesh knew she probably should have cleaned all of the pots used for the last meal service before the test occurred, but leave it to her to put things off til well past the last minute. Getting clobbered by a pile of stainless still cookware was not something she ever wanted to repeat, thank you very much.
Oh, sure, someone in sickbay told her that she just had a mild concussion, but Nesh felt...different somehow. And it wasn't the left-over soup that still remained in her hair. Perhaps it was the news that she had been reassigned new berthing?
So with a still throbbing headache, Nesh had packed up her stuff and carted it across the ship to her new quarters. She reached the door of her new 'home' on the ship and keyed in the code provided to allow entry.
Not expecting the door to open Mimi was definitely surprised when it did and the familiar form of Nesh stepped through carrying several bundles of her belongings l. "Nesh? What are you doing here?"
"What am I doing here?" Nesh dumped her bags and the large crate she was carrying unceremoniously around her and looked at Mimi with a quizzical expression.
"I've been rehoused! I had a perfectly acceptable spot and..." Nesh was about to jump off into a colorful tirade but she realized something. "Wait...what are you doing here?" Nesh glanced over to Hollenday who was also occupying the space, but had thus far remained silent, "Oh, Hi, John."
"These have been my quarters since after Miss Barras left the ship," Mimi replied, she looked over to John, if Nesh was now sharing the room with her he'd not be able to stay around as much. "I guess I do now have a room mate now."
"Hey Nesh. So maybe I should take off and let you two figure out arrangements. I simply stopped by to talk about our wedding coming up."
Nesh furrowed her brows and frowned slightly, realizing that her unannounced arrival interrupted things between Mimi and John. "Oh, no. I didn't mean. You can stay. I...I can always just drop my things off and get back to the mess hall. The kitchen is a literal disaster area. I may have put off cleaning the pots for too long."
"I am glad you are here actually Nesh, saves me having to come and track you down." Mimi said the glanced across to her fiancé again. "I do not know when the Captain will let us actually get married but when we do, would you be one of my bridesmaids?"
"A bridesmaid? That's a human designation, right? Will I keep you from getting kidnapped or something?" Nesh said with a warm smile and a gleam in her eye. The thought of being Mimi's body guard during this period before the wedding was an exciting one. Of course, she was thinking about all of this through the lens of an Orion cultural outlook at the moment. Sure, she had lived on Earth, but there were some important cultural ceremonies she had not had the opportunity to experience. A wedding was one of them.
She looked to John, and before letting Mimi answer, said, "I promise, I will keep her safe from nefarious acts."
"On this little ship? What could possibly happen? I mean what the Borg are going to jump here? Some fairy stardust being suddenly show up? Most likely you will have your hands full with the captain. She's a grumpy gus." John paused. "Oh and I hear rumors that that Frost gal is a telepath. Best you think that over before doing more than looking pretty and walking down an aisle."
"The Borg appearing at my wedding would make the event very memorable." Mimi stood up from the sofa and headed over to Nesh. "Thank you so much for saying yes." She said happily and quickly wrapped her arms around her friend and hugged her tight.
Nesh dropped her belongings just in time to get the stuffing hugged out of her. "Ooof..." She said, perhaps a bit more melodramatically than was necessary. "You're welcome!" She replied while looking over Mimi's shoulder to John. "You'll not 'scare' me into failing to perform my duties!"
John laughed. "If you can handle the captain, then more power to you. Speaking of which." John turned his attention to Mimi. "We need to talk to her. We need to make sure that we are good to go."
Releasing Nesh Mimi quickly returned to the sofa landing with a thud and wrapping an arm around John. "She did say after our next assignment, we did not exactly have one just now. So knowing her she will make us keep waiting."
"So we are making a lot of plans for nothing." John stopped and blinked, before shaking his head.
"We are making plans just so we are ready for when she does let us, that could be months from now, it could be while we are here back at Regula, if it is then we would have very little time to plan anything." Mimi countered.
"Who's to say what goes on in the mind of the captain. I suppose all you two can do is plan things and...hope for the best?" Nesh crouched to gather her dropped belongings and brought them over to where she would carve out a small space for herself. "I guess I should do some research into my responsibilities and the upcoming nuptial customs?"
"Fine we will plan things and hope it is not far off. I still might if we get off this ship make a stop at Administrator's Frost office," John replied. He then turned his attention to Mimi. "Think you could come up with some supply issue that needs her attention?"
Mimi slapped John's leg lightly. "Do not go behind the Captain's back like that again John please. She let you off with a threat that time, this time she might actually send you to the Klingon border."
"The Klingon border might be more fun!" Nesh quipped, knowing she was butting into their conversation to a certain extent, but not caring.
"OK lovebirds. I'll get out of your hair. I've got to get back to the mess hall. I really feel quite compelled to do some cleaning. Perhaps I got knocked harder than I thought..."
"All right. Try not to poison anyone," John quipped.
"Have fun Nesh." Mimi said with a light chuckle, she waited till Nesh left then turned to John and gave him a peck on his cheek. "Now where were we?"
"And don't kill anyone!" John couldn't help but tease the Orion.
