Mission: Episode 18 - Cold Station 31
Location: USS Galileo: Ensign Mimi's Quarters
Timeline: MD 05, 0545 hrs

ON:

Curled up in her bed happy that she had finally gotten the chance to sleep Mimi gently snored, not something she usually did unless she was extremely tired.

The chime broke through the quiet of the quarters as Blake pressed it, waiting outside as she looked down the corridor. She caught sight of a crew member walking with another, his hands in his uniform pockets and his sleeves dishevelled up to his elbows. She narrowed her eyes as they met his, using a hand to motion at him with a firm flick, shaking her head as he moved quickly to pull his hands out of his pockets and to neaten his appearance.

Mimi's ears twitched when they heard the unmistakable sound of her doors chime, very slowly she woke up and looked at the clock, she'd been asleep barely an hour and was already getting disturbed, not want she wanted. 'Go away' she thought as she got out of bed and trudged very groggily towards the door and opened it.

Blake took in the sight of the Ensign; it was more or less what she'd expected. Unfortunately, after what she'd spoken about with the acting Captain, this wasn't something she could let drift. "Ensign, I'd like a word," she said quietly, but it wasn't a question.

"Commander Blake.." Mimi said quite suprised, she'd expected to have to talk to one of them but not so soon. "Ok.." Se stepped back from the doorway to allow Scarlet in, glad she and Kala hadn't spent much time in their quarters during shoreleave so everything was still quite tidy.

Blake stepped inside, glancing around out of instinct more than anything else. She took a seat, indicating that the nightwear clad woman should join her. "I'm here to find out what happened on the bridge with you earlier."

"I fell asleep... because I was very tired." Mimi said as she sat on the opposite chair. "My species needs its sleep."

Blake frowned as she leant forward, resting her clasped hands on her knees. "No illness?" she checked, shaking her head slightly. She didn't recall a similar incident and had been worried there might be something wrong.

"No, just a long busy day and not enough sleep." Mimi shook her head slightly then rubbed her eyes. "I was just about to go to bed when the 'emergency recall' came, so I have not slept since 0700 yesterday."

"7 through to 4?" Scarlet's eyebrows lifted with surprise. "That's a pretty late night you pulled there..."

"I did not have a choice did I? The Captain wanted us all back on the ship and the ship running." Mimi said. "Then that briefing in the cargo bay, I had hoped to get some sleep after that but then I noticed they wanted me for bridge duty."

"I meant more the lead up before," Blake shook her head though, sitting back as she crossed her legs. "Ensign, falling asleep at your post is unacceptable. Whatever reason, every officer is expected to do their duty to the high standard that Starfleet demands."

"I understand that Commander," Mimi replied somewhat annoyed, she knew that was the case but this wasn't exactly a nomal occasion. "this was an odd situation for me and the crew, I have never had to stay awake for that long and I did not expect to have to try, the emergency call back kept me from getting any sleep."

"I don't know about you, Ensign, but I can't remember many urgent missions that have happened on demand to our alarm clocks," Blake pointed out, shaking her head firmly. She'd meant every word she'd said to Tarin, but she also agreed with her on personnel being prepared. "You're a Starfleet Officer, and unexpected demands will be made of you. And as an officer, I expect you to be responsible in judging whether you're fit for duty and flagging appropriately if you are not."

"I thought I could manage," Mimi said after a few moments "at least till we got underway."

"And I understand and admire your commitment," Blake replied honestly. A sense of duty was an integral part of an officer's makeup. It was important to Blake that she showed she recognised that. "But the reality is that an officer falling asleep at their station could have dangerous consequences. So I expect you to know when you are fit for duty, or not. I would also expect that if you know that you need more sleep in order to be fit, that you make sure you get it."

"Am I going to get.... written up? for this?" Mimi asked, her record was still effectively spotless and she didn't want something permanent on there.

Blake watched her steadily for a long moment, straightening slightly before finally shaking her head. "So long as you understand what I'm saying and assure me you'll take steps to make sure that it will never happen again, I think we can leave it at this."

"I will do my best to make sure it does not Commander." Mimi said, though she couldn't promise anything especially if there were more late night emergency calls.

Blake held her eyes for a long moment, shaking her head slightly. "You will ensure that it won't, by making sure you get the rest you medically require, and declaring that you are unfit for duty if needed," she stood, tugging her cuffs straight.

"Understood Sir." Mimi said standing shortly after Blake did, glad that she was hopefully about to leave so she could get back to sleep.

Blake nodded to her as she made her way to the door, pleased to get that out of the way. She couldn't resist glancing back to her as the doors opened. "Sweet dreams..." she said lightly as she left.

The second the door shut Mimi let out the long yawn she'd desperately held in the last couple of minutes and stretched as she headed back to her bedroom. Flopping onto the mattress she quickly curled up and in moments was asleep again.

This is a wonderful post between them! Blake's concern and firmness as an XO and Mimi's slightly bleary-eyed acceptance of it made for a very natural post. Could have slotted this in on Voyager and I would have believed it was a scene from it :)
