Mission: Episode 15 - Emanation
Location: Rigel II - Avondale Shipyards, USS Galileo-A
Timeline: MD 146, 1730 hrs

[ON]

Lt. Shizn received the two hour warning. This was not his duty shift, but all crew were expected to be at the ready at certain times, like when there is a Red Alert, and when the ship is going through docking and launching procedures. Since Ensign Derani was on Bridge duty for the Conn, Tris knew that he was her relief or back up Officer. Even though Tris had only briefly met Miraj Derani briefly in a meeting, he had great confidence in her capabilities. Definately, if she wasn’t capable, the Captain wouldn’t have her at the Conn.

Tris made his way down to the main shuttle bay. He knew this was where the other conn officers and pilots would be during his prep time. Arriving in the shuttle bay, he found The Virginia on the launch position. With a pad he quickly confirmed that it had been previously checked by another Flight Officer and was secured to the deck my magnetic grapplers. The Andorian waved to a few crewmen and Flight Officer before turning and making his way down one deck to where the other shuttles were stored.

Walking into the shuttle storage bay, Lt. Shizn stopped and looked about. Everything seemed to be in its place and secured for flight operations. He was then bumped into from the rear, which knocked him forward a couple paces. Lt. Shizn turned angrily, his antennae angled forward almost laying on his blue scalp, to find a very terrified Crewman, who promptly came to attention.

Tris allowed the jostling to be forgotten for the moment, understanding easily what had taken place. “What’s your name Crewman?” The Andorian requested in a kind, yet official tone.

The young Human spoke nervously, “Crewman 2nd Class Jenkins.” Jeff wasn’t sure what else to say and remained at attention.

“Jenkins, Jenkins,” Tris said thoughtfully. “Ah, Jeffery Jenkins, Crewman 2nd Class, shuttle support and storage tech. Correct?”

“Yes Sir,” Jenkins replied with a smile. “That’s a good memory you have there Sir.”

Tris realized that this Crewman was speaking out of nervousness. He was now speaking overtly with praises. This caused the Andorian to smile slightly, then with a more serious expression asked, “Are the shuttles secure for launch?” He raised an eyebrow in question.

“Yes Sir,” Jenkins began, “We just took care of that.”

Tris could see that Jenkins was still nervous. This definately was not the time for a dressing down. “Alright Jenkins, carry on, but be more careful when moving about when in a hurry.”

“Aye Sir,” Jenkins replied smartly. “Will do.”

Tris then made a gesture with his fingers in a ‘shooing’ motion. And the Crewman moved off quickly. A smile came to Tris’ face. He could appreciate the eagerness of youth. He was very much like that once . . . many years ago.

Shizn then slapped his hands together, rubbing them slightly, “One more thing to check.” Turning, he made his way out of the storage area and to the Waverider.

Tris knew that, because of its size and position, this Waverider could be considered a ‘Captains yault’, but it had not, as yet, been so designated.

Just a few minutes of walking and Tris entered the Waverider Runabout. Tris found this vessel to be an elegant spacecraft. It was much larger than the other shuttles on board. Besides the fact that it had more power and could carry much more than the Type 6 shuttles on board. This Runabout was aeronautically designed to handle atmospheric flight. Tris had only piloted this Class on a holodeck simulator, but he was more than capable of handling her in any situation. He had to admit that he had been just a touch jealous when Ens. Derani had been given the honor to pilot it from the station out to dock with the Galileo-A.

Shizn sat down at the controls, activated the console, and checked it for readiness. After just a few seconds of going through a few screeens, Tris was satisfied that the Waverider was also ready for any task asked of her.

Shizn made his way back to the Main Shuttlebay for a couple reasons, but mostly because a turbolift door was right there that could get him to the Bridge in just a few seconds if called upon.
