Mission: Episode 16 - A Far Sun
Location: USS Schofield - Cargo Bay, Mess Hall
Timeline: MD -06, 1000hrs

[ON]

With the lack of a proper gym aboard the Schofield Mimi had resorted to doing laps around one of the ships relatively empty cargo bays. It wasn't the best but it would certainly make do for now and the big heavy cargo boxes would make for good obstacles for her to do some acrobatics with.

She was just taking a quick break to stretch some more when she heard the doors open. The rich earthy organic, musky smell preceded his appearence by a scant second and then the large catiain, M'rthyr was sauntering in, literally all leonine power and grace.

He didn't fail to notice Mimi, his ears twitching up, his whiskers flicking in her direction. "Well, well. If it is the enchantress with the beguiling eyes," he purred, moving over to the small crate of equipment in one corner.

He began to stretch, and Mimi couldn't help but notice his muscles rippling under the thick mustard fur.

"Hello M'rthyr." Mimi called out, she continued stretching, contorting and bending her body in ways that would make any other species snap in two.

"Lady Mimi," He watched as she moved through her poses. "You are well, I hope?" It was polite small talk, and whilst he continued to limber up, he didn't hide his attention to her. She was as flexible as any Caitian, even if she didn't have as much of a glossy coat.

"I am well yes." She replied, with one last bend of her extremely flexible spine she set off on the first of another series of laps around the cargo bay.

M'rthyr watched her run, nostrils flaring, inhaling the scent trails she was leaving, She may not be caitian, she didn't smell the same, but she didn't smell badly either. Not badly at all. He smiled to himself, all teeth. He turned away, slowly, reluctantly, and went about setting up his bench. When it was the right height, he started to jog along side her. His greater height meant he kept up with ease. "I am pleased to see you again. I wish to know you better."

"There is not much to know about me and what there is; is not a very good tale." Mimi said as he joined her.

"Unlikely to be true." He replied, turning to run backwards so he could face her. "I do not know you at all, therefore there is plenty to learn. Such as where you are from? How many were in your litter? Are you mated yet?"

Mimi nearly fell over when M'rthyr asked if she was mated, quickly regaining her step she caught back up, she decided to answer that question first. "I am not no, and right now I do not plan to be." She told him.

M'rthyr gave her a toothy, insouciant, grin. "Never say never. You are young, And nubile."

"Nubile? what is that?" Mimi asked, she was starting to think there was a specific reason for this line of conversation.

He gave a rumbling chuckle as they jogged back to the starting point, and the Caitian went to his bench picking up a set of heavy looking dumbells and began with a set of curls, his muscles flexing. "It means you are pretty. A queen."

Mimi carried on jogging but felt herself unconsciously drawn towards M'rthyr each time she got close to him during her circuits of the cargo bay, the scent he was putting out was strong and just a little intoxicating. "You seem very interested in me M'yrthr." She asked, hoping he would get more to the point of why.

"Who would not be?" the large caitian put down the dumbells, and started on a set of jump squats onto a crate that came up to Mimi's hips, nimbly jumping up from a standing start before stepping down and doing it again. "You are young, and attractive, and unmated." he jumped up again. "For now."

Slowing to a stop beside M'rthyr she looked him straight in the eyes. "And you want to try and..... court and mate with me?" She asked hoping she had interpreted everything right.

"Of course." He replied simply. He jumped, and then down. "Why are you surprised?"

"Well, I am not a Caitian." Mimi replied, while part of her psyiology was similar to Caitians a lot of it wasn't.

"I'm not looking to start a pride," the caitian gave a snort of laughter, and then adjusted his stance, casually turning the crate so its height was about half what it had been, and then braced his feet up on its edge and began a series of press ups. "Merely enjoy the company of someone far more attractive than the naked apes."

"Well." Mimi squirmed a little trying to find a way to move the conversation away from talk about mating. "I do not know much about Caitians but I would like to know more."

M'rthyr grinned and stood up, leaning causally against the wall next to Mimi, His arm high, stretching the muscles of his torso, leaving taut lines in his fur outlining his six pack. "I am happy to olige, where would you like to start?"

John had asked where Ensign Mimi was and the computer had said in a cargo bay. He thought to see if she wanted to go have a little something before duty called. She did not eat a lot but it was more frequent, that he had learned. So he headed off to see her.

As he entered he was about to say "Hey good lookin'" but spotted another crew member. A fur ball of some sort was yapping with Mimi. He and her had an understanding that when others were about to keep things more formal.

"Ugh, sorry Ensign," he called out instead. "Didn't mean to interrupt just had a question for you but if you are busy just let me know."

Mimi's ears twitched when she heard John's voice. "Hello John." She called back. She took several quick steps away from M'rthyr. "How can I help?"

"Oh...ugh...well did not know you were busy and all," he looked past her at the Caitian. "I just wanted to see if you might like to get a bit of good ol' Georgia breakfast cooked up. You seemed to like it when you visited."

"I am not too busy, I could go for some food." Mimi replied.

"Well then, if you are done then come along. I got some time in mess so I can get some steak and eggs with biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon and grits and whatever else you might like." He was still looking at the other person though. "Ummm......you are welcome as well," he finally decided and offered. He stuck out a hand, "John Hollenday," he offered.

M'rthyr looked at the hand, his nostrils flaring slightly and his hair seemed to rise slightly, making him grow by a few centimetres all round. Then M'rthyr tookk Johns hand and shook. Like a vise. "I would like that John Hollenday."

"Alright then," John replied and smiled. He noted the hard squeeze but being a good ol' farmer boy that was nothing he was not used to. His daddy made this one seem easy.

Mess Hall

John had lead the pair down to the mess hall and while he had hoped that the M'rhyr would beg off but he had not. He had gotten the name from Mimi after a bit. Well if anything John had been raised to be polite and second he would have to work with this guy on board any way and best start off on a good footing.

While the other two sat, he headed toward the cooking area for those that liked to old fashion cook rather then replicate their meals. Of course one had to replicate the ingredients but one had to make some concessions.

"So M'rthyr how you like you steak, rare, well done or black and blue? Eggs want some of those as well? Mimi I think I remember you liked those sunny side up is that right? A little tabasco?"

"Just a touch." Mimi said, the strange sauce John had got her to sample had a very strong taste even to her limited pallete; a taste she found she liked.

"I like mine bleeding." M'rthyr boasted. "Cooking it takes out any taste. Meat should be juicy!"

"I find cooking it a little makes it taste better." Mimi countered, she still ate raw meat on occasion but preferred it cooked. "And eating raw meat around most species is..... 'frowned upon' I think is a good term to describe it."

John got to work and seared just barely one steak, the other he knew how Mimi liked it. While he was at it, he got some fried catfish which Mimi seemed to like, along with bacon, eggs, grits and some biscuits and gravy. It took a bit of time but he brought things to the table and took a seat.

"Enjoy," he said digging into his own sunny side up eggs. "So M'rhyr what do you do aboard the ship? Mini is ops and I am in engineering." John had been raised to be polite though he noted how the Caitian had been hanging around Mimi.

"I am in security," M'rthyr replied, tearing a mouthful from the steak held on his fork, "I must confess I lack the required patience for such creative endeavours."

"To each their own talent," John replied. He took a piece of bacon and chomped at it and then looked to Mimi and asked, "So you up to having another movie night tonight with me?"

Mimi finished a chunk of her steak before replying. "Sure, I think it is your turn to pick the movie."

"Alright think I will go with an oldie but goodie. It is a bit long but I think you will like it. It's called Doctor Zhivago. Considered to have some of the best filmography of the time along with being a sweeping romance." John let that last shoe drop and smiled. That should put that Catian in his place.

M'rthyr frowned. "John Hollenday, that is a very lazy way to woo a female. You do not have to do anything but polish a chair with your flabby behind." He looked at Mimi, "It is acceptable to you that he uses another's work to entertain you, rather than his own mind and body?"

John put his fork down and said, "then you do not know much about the ways of women and love. Pump a few muscles and walk around like a peacock is not the way to a real ladies heart. If that is the way you do things I guess you are still a virgin or did you have to hire some gal?"

"John." Mimi said a little scornfully, he'd invited M'rthyr and now was being far from polite.

M'rthyr's nostrils flared as he breathed in Jon's wafting odours, the scent of a rival male. "I accept your challenge, monkey!" he laughed, slapping his thigh with delight. "For you obviously do not know much about "real" ladies if you think they are only aroused by second hand poetry and borrowed seductions. Let us do battle for the affections of Lady Mimi with our weapons of choice!"

"Well the only weapon I need is a few words and you sir stand about as much chance as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest," John sneered a little and then chuckled. These was not much different than a bunch of good ol' boys that had a bit too much beer and talked all sorts of crap. "However, you are sitting there makin' all sorts of noises and acting like the lovely lady here is just a door prize. To me that shows a lack of respect on what she might like."

"Both of you stop it, now." Mimi said, they were both acting like children and she had a duty to stop things escalating. Although challenges taking place between males was sometimes how things went with Nekomi courtship.

John turned his attention to Mimi and nodded. It was not just that she was a superior officer but also he meant what he said that talking like she was some sort of prize was not in his way of thinking proper. "Yes ma'am," he replied. He turned back to the Caitian and stuck out a hand. "I have been raised better then that. Let's start this over."

The large Caitian looked betweent hem both. Then he shook Jon's outstretched hand with one hairy paw, again with hearty force. There was a gleam in his eye. We both know this isn't stopped. We both know this is just starting "I am pleased to meet you John Hollenday."

"And you as well," John replied with a smile. He was a farm boy. While maybe a bit of machinery and all had gotten more sophisticated, farming was still a hard, hands on, physical work. Engineering mates while using more sophisticated instruments for work also had a lot of physical work as well. He just squeezed back to let the Caitian know that he was not intimidated.

M'rthyr's smiled widened. He liked a good challenger, and this one had confidence. "So. You are an engineer, I am in Security and Lady Mimi is in operations. We all know each other. We have feasted. We are friends."

Mimi eyed M'rthyr a little suspiciously, no one went from aggression to passive again that quickly, she thought he was just putting it on because she had chastised both of them and as soon as she was out of the way he'd be right at John's throat.

John relaxed. "Friends, I like that. Well then...anything I can cook up extra for my mates?" John asked.

"I am fine thank you John." Mimi said.

The caitian made a rumbling sound, like a cross between a purr and a miaow. "I am satisfied, John Hollenday. You are a good cook."

"Now M'rthyr, will you tell me some things about Caitian's?" Mimi said, John's arrival had cut their original discussion off before it had even got started.

"We are a great people." M'rthyr began. "Hunters, Warriors, Master Craftsmen, Poets, Philosophers, Lovers...."
