Mission: Episode 16 - A Far Sun
Location: USS Schofield - Jefferies Tube B-19
Timeline: MD -10, 1020 hrs

[ON]

In the bowels of the USS Schofield Mimi was waist deep in a panel in one of the many jefferies tubes. She was gradually working through a list of faults that had been reported to Ops and engineering in the few days they had been underway, her third job of the morning, total power loss in 3 adjacent rooms on deck four.

"Burned out relays, no surprise there." She looked into her toolkit for the box full of replacement relays and pulled one out then noticed the burned out relay was completely different to the ones she had bought with her.

She tapped her combadge =/\=Mimi to Ops centre.=/\=

"Snow here," came the reply, in his calm unperterbable voice. "What can I do for you ma'am?"

"Can you find me some J type 327 relays and bring them to jefferies tube B-19?"

"On my way." The connection cut.

A few minutes later, Snow came through the access panel a few feet away. "Type seven conduiting. Wow. They retired that when I was in college. Schofield really is an an old lady."

"These Oberth's were built to last, sometimes the older tech is the best." Mimi said and took the box of relays. "I like working with the isolinear chips more than the weird gel packs."

Snow laughed. "Gel packs have been around since before you were born. I've never heard them called weird before." He began pulling aside the burnt out relays for recycling.

"True, they are much older than me." Mimi replied. "I just find how they work very strange, can you finish this one while I check the next panel?"

They shuffled round, and Snow took over, extracting the dead relays ad replacing them. "Weird?" he asked. "Whats weird about a small bag of organic matter making fuzzy logic decisions at uncomprehensible speeds?"

"Exactly, I still can not tell quite how they do what they do." Mimi said as she scurried a few metres down the jefferies tube to check the next panel, she pulled the panel off and examined the relays.

"If you think this is bad, wait till you have teenagers," Snow said with a laugh.

Mimi laughed a little too. "Me and my sister were often....trouble for our mother."

"I bet you two were a right handful." snow said, pulling out a relay. "My kids were always worse together. Partners in crime."

"You have children of your own?" Mimi asked, she noted that he used 'were'

"Grown up now." Another relay came out with a plink and pinged onto the floor. Snow reached down for it. "Natasha is a journalist with FNN, and Frank is training to be an elementary teacher."

"I bet you're proud of what they have done with their lives. I hope one day I will.." Mimi suddenly yelped."bosh'tet."

"What's up?" Snow looked over to her, and then blinked in surprise. All the short fur on her body was standing up, pointing straight out giving her the appearance of a particularly fluffy kitten. "Oh. Are you alright?"

Mimi shook her hands trying to get rid of the tingling sensation from the mild jolt she'd received. "Yes, I am ok, just a little shock."

"Are you sure? you look a little....staticky."

Running her hands over her fur to try and flatten it back down Mimi quickly stopped when a pain went through her hand. "I guess not." She showed the palm of her hand to snow, there was a small burn in the centre of her palm.

"Oh dear," He took her hand and squinted at the reddened mark. "I think you better take that to sick bay. I can finish up here."

"It is not too bad." Mimi said, she wiggled her fingers a little. "I can still feel my fingers and it does not hurt too much, I can finish here first."

"Ma'am," he said firmly, in a tone that would brook no argument. "There's a time for being stoic. this is not it. Go to sick bay."

"Ok, I am going." Mimi said, she turned and started to crawl away down the tube towards the exit.

"Good choice, ma'am" Snow agreed, and carried on replacing his relays, making a mental note check the humidity in her room, and make sure there was some anti-static hair spritz on the replicator list. "I'll let you know when I've finished up here."

"Thank you Crispin." Mimi called out as she dissappeared around a corner.

Snow smiled to himself, "You're welcome, ma'am"
