Mission: Episode 12 - Recluse
Location: Kreanus medical Facility
Timeline: MD 05 1500

[ON]

The infirmary was decently equipped that was the good news. It could be warmer at least to Allyndra's way of thinking but then the coolness also slowed the rate of infection. There were several biobeds that were basic but there were more extensive ones, ones that had obviously been salvaged off of ships and installed here. It was good to be back to being a doctor rather then being in command. Wiggins was very hurt and not in any shape to take command so that placed the responsibility then on her. So far the Romulan woman had kept her word and they had better facilities and the medical facility. Guards still hovered around the edges but they seemed to keep a bit more of their distance. It was interesting how this place worked but right now she need to get to work.

The most sophisticated beds held the severest injured and thus needed the quickest medical attention. She would start there and made her way to one. What she did not expect to see was the pilot laying there in very bad shape. Had they not talked just a bit ago.

"Miraj? It is Allyndra, what has happened?"

"I don't feel well," the girl said. She had been pale from blood loss even before the Klingons had taken them. Now she was so pallid she was grey. Her face was swollen and bruised on both sides, the purple stark against the unblemished skin. There was an unhealthy flush on her forehead too. As Allyndra watched she hugged herself, shivering, and then rolled to the side of the bed and puked a thin stream of water and bile, dry retching up the last vestiges of her empty stomach.

Allyndra did not ask anything more but went to work. She needed to get fluids in and then begin to assess the damage. The shivering and nausea were signs of stress and shock. Fluids would be first. "Alright," Allyndra went and got a blanket which would be more for psychological comfort, "let's get some fluids started and then let me take a look." She got the IVs going, Kreanus had minimal amounts of medications but so far they were sparing the new comers the king's share. Two cracked ribs, there was swelling along there, but what got her attention was other marks. They appeared to be burn marks which would not be unusual but considering they were very even it made her wonder. "What are these?" she asked as she did her best with the limited equipment to treat them.

Miraj hugged the blanket to herself. "The Klingon's did it. They wanted to know things." She squeezed her eyes shut remembering the pain on the needles going in, the burning agony of when whatever was pumped down them hit her spinal cord. And the begging and the screaming. "It hurt so much. I'm sorry. "

"K'ahumanaha!" Allyndra exclaimed. Another mark in the book to take to the Romulan Commander. If they wanted the help they so desired they had best begin to address the way everyone of her shipmates had been treated.
"Nothing to be sorry about," Allyndra said and again shook her head. "Let's get to work...." She trailed off as she looked at the puncture marks that were already puffy and hot to the touch, definite signs of infections. She wished the bed would provide more information, it was basic as heck probably taken off a Klingon ship, so all she could do was use a broad spectrum antibiotic. She dialed that up along with an anaglesic.

"I am giving you something for the pain and the infection. Now," she took a seat on the edge of the bed and stroked the woman's hair. "Relax, let the medication work, talk to me or if you wish I will just sing you a little song if you would like."

"Why did they do it?" she wasn't really asking, it was more rhetorical than anything else. "If they wanted our help why did they do it?" She lay back on the bed, the infection fever chilling her and making her sweat at the same time. "they cant' possibly think we'll help after what they did?"

"I do not know......yet, but I am going to find out. Now, let me give you another booster." She looked at the monitor and nodded. The medication was working slowly and she felt confident enough that she could use a bit more. In fact considering the extent, she decided that an IV antibiotic would be best. "Now I am going to start you on another IV. Your going to feel a bit miserable but I need to keep that infection from going systemic."

Allyndra got the drip started and then again sat. She would monitor for awhile longer and talk. Some was to get off her own tired feet, some was to be a reassuring presence. Again, she begin to gently stroke her hair and she told her the story of Ola'ha's wish http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewlog/1036

Miraj listened quietly as the doctor told her legend, feeling the drugs take the edge off the infection. "But would Ola'ha have got water for the old woman if the crone had drowned Aleakea out of hand the day before?"

Allyndra laughed lightly. "I think it is a moral lesson and thus, I would say yes. We should be forgiving for who knows what might be next. Now feeling a bit better? I can give you a bit more if you want to."

"Yes please, more drugs," Miraj agreed eagerly. There was a pause. "Do you think they'd let us survey the wreckage. See if there's any more survivors?" She knew that it would be well past seventy two hours since destruct before she could get back. Long into the point where odds of survival were quoted with six or seven zeroes. "There could be survivors. We went out to a freighter that had been caught by a comet, and the crew turned out to still be alive, and that was seventy two days later."

She need Allyndra to lie to her and say yes. She needed to believe that Luke was still out there. that she would see him again.

"I have requested a meeting so I can bring it up. I cannot promise." Allyndra replied and then added with smile, "I have seen the condition of this place, everything is just barely hanging together, most is salvage and then there is the incursions by the Klingons looking for this General. They might know the territory better but sooner or later one of their ships is going to be captured and the secret of this place is gone. They know there is no way this ice ball of world and the people here will be able to withstand a concerted effort. Infrastructure needs engineers and they seem to have a lack of those. I won't order anyone to work with these people but until we have an arrangement I will not allow volunteers either."

"Thats alright. I'm not helping any of them. I just want to look for survivors." For Luke. She needed to find Luke. Couldn't bear the thought of him drifting and alone, dying slowly. Or worse, sucked out into space to flash freeze after thirty seconds of terrible awareness before he ran out of air. Her stomach knotted. She hated not knowing. she hated the hope that was still there. the what ifs and maybes. things were just starting to go right, found someone who didn't think she was a little crazy, or too monomaniacal to contend with. And then this stupid bloody klingon had to ruin it. "I hope those bloody tribbles destroy every last one of those stinking ships."

"Oh I forgot all about them!" Allyndra laughed and then hugged the woman. "You are right, there is nothing like a tribble infestation to make the day." Her tone grew serious. "Now rest, let the antibiotics and your own body do its work and I will go see what passes for authority here about getting out there to take a look."

"I don't want to rest. Is there something I can do?"

"Yes there is, but unless you are in shape to do them and you are not. If you wish you can file a complaint to the commanding officer or the medical officer but as I am the ranking one each currently I think I know where that complaint will go." Allynda said it as a joke. She knew Miraj was not going anyplace. "Right now I need as many healthy as possible. Healthy individuals can resist or if need be attack. Understood?"

"I understand." The girl looked crestfallen. "I...don't want to think. About anything. Isn't there anything I can do to help and not think?"

Allyndra really did not want her doing much. She really needed the rest but she understood the need to keep the mind occupied. "Yes, If you do not mind playing yeoman slightly, I could use the names of who we have, and what their status is. Would you mind doing that?"

"I'd love to," She nodded eagerly. Anything to keep her mind on something else. Even if it would keep reminding her that Luke hadn't made it. It could at least distract from what the Klingons had one to her, and what she had done in response.

"Thank you. I know it is hard, but I need to know who we have, what resources we have. I do not intend to spend the rest of my days in this place if I can help it. However, shhhh.......we keep things quiet among the crew. We play nice, smile, be helpful and we become 'the ghost in the machine' wending our way into things, placing our own little bits here and there and when the time is right......."

"We bring a spring upon her cable?" Miraj asked hopefully, a bit of brightness coming back into her voice.

"Something like that. Now....." Allyndra patted. "Get better I will need everyone that we have healthy and ready."

Miraj managed a smile. "Yes Ma'am!"
