[OLD]

After a few minutes she regained her composure and smiled. “Oh…I needed a good laugh. But hey look really it was a long time ago so no worries. I’m sure you’re better with the ladies.”

There was silence. “It was a week ago.”

She burst out laughing again…

Braxton smiled he was glad she was laughing it was funny to him now too. After all laughing stopped he asked her. “So what is your story, bèbè?”

[ON]

Splendora sighed. “That is a long and sad story.”

He smiled. “I have time.

She sighed. “Well what’s fair is fair.” She thought for a moment. “Can you please hang on a second? I’m uncomfortable here on the floor. Going to get a pillow and blanket.”

Braxton smiled. “Okay. Will do the same.”

Both went to their beds got pillows and a blanket and snuggled in the corner laying down. They were facing the wall. “Are you back?”

Splendora smiled at Braxton’s question. “All snuggled in and ready to tell you my story.”

Braxton smiled and pulled the blanket up over himself. The floor was hard but hey, the conversation was good. “Go ahead.”

Splendora took a deep breath. “I’ve been on leave for a year now. Been doing some traveling with Drisilla my fiancée. We went everywhere. She loved archaeology and history and… she was amazing”

Braxton grunted. “Anyone who loves archaeology and history is amazing.”

Splendora smiled sadly. “Yeah, she said the same all the time. Anyway we were on a dig and there was a storm…it was on Delvus Prime and …. Well she didn’t make it. She died saving the relics she loved so much.”

Braxton was quiet for a moment. He could sense her grief. He placed a hand on the wall. “I’m so sorry bèbè.”

Splendora sniffed. “I loved her so much. I feel…lost and the worst of it is she was a joined Trill and the symbiont perished so she won’t live on at all.”

Braxton felt tears come to his eyes for the woman. “Of course she will live on, in your heart, in your mind, and in the afterlife.”

Splendora wiped her tears with her sleeve. “Do you believe such a thing?”

Braxton thought for a moment. “I believe so, bèbè.” He sighed. “Some don’t and in my profession it’s even harder to believe but I do.”

Splendora sniffled. “So you’re either a doctor or a scientist if your profession doesn’t believe in an afterlife.”

“Oui, bèbè,” he said. “Something like that. Just remember all the good times with her. Remember the love.”

Splendora touched the wall between them. “Thank you. I needed to talk to someone.”

Braxton had a sudden urge to touch the wall and he did. “Glad to help, bèbè.”

She smiled. “Can you sleep here tonight like me?” She asked feeling a bit vulnerable.

“Oui, bèbè.” He smiled. “The first time I sleep with a woman and there is a wall between us.”

Splendora’s mouth fell open… “You’ve never…”

Suddenly feeling embarrassed and glad that she couldn’t see him he said, “No…I usually end up doing something stupid and things, they do not get that far.”

“Oh no!” She tried not to smile but he was just so adorable! “Good night my friend.”

Braxton smiled. “Good night bèbè.”
