Mission: Episode 12 - Recluse
Location: USS Wolff - Guest Quarters
Timeline: MD -07 0300hours

[OLD]

After a half hour of watching the stars he walked back to the replicator. “Lavender Green Tea, hot.” He said. One the cup materialized he walked to the little desk that came with his room and picked up a book on Ancient Greece from Earth.

Braxton walked over to the corner opposite the window, so he could still look up and watch the stars and slid to the ground. He opened his book.

A sound drew his attention. It sounded like someone crying…but that made no sense. The wall was soundproof wasn’t it? He tapped on the wall. “Hello….”

[ON]

Splendora was startled by the faint voice. She placed her hand on the wall. “Hello?”

Braxton’s eyebrows shot up. “How is it possible that we’re talkin’? This wall is supposed to be soundproof,” he said.

Splendora wiped her cheeks, “I…I don’t know.”

She waited for a few moments but there was no sound. “Hello,” she called.

There was no response. She was met with complete silence. Had she imagined the voice? A few moments more passed and she heard the tap again.

Braxton sat back down in the corner with a satisfied smile. “Solved it! The wall is very thin here. It’s almost hollow. A flaw or some worker slacking off,” he said.

She smiled. “Let me guess. When you were silent you went to tap other parts of the wall.”

Brax laughed. “Wi. I had a theory, I tested it, I came to a conclusion.”

“So you must be a scientist or doctor.”

Braxton grinned. “Something like that.” He paused for a moment. “So…um…were you crying Bébé.”

What did he just call her? “Baby? Seriously?”

“Is not meant that way Mon Chér.”

“Ohhhh Accent,” Splendora said. “So what’s your name? Are you a crew member from the Wolff or are you going on the Galileo? I…”

Braxton noted that she side stepped the crying question. “I prefer we did not use names or say what ship we are from,” he interrupted her.

Splendora gave the wall the eye and then remembered that he couldn’t see. “Okay I guess.” She said. She leaned back and closed her eyes. “So what do I call you while we are wall talking?”

Brax smiled. “I am reading about Earth History, Ancient Greece. I could pick somethin’ from there. Zeus.”

Splendora laughed. “Really? Big ego much?”

Brax smiled. “Okay. You pick Chér, but then I get to pick your name too.”

She grinned at this odd conversation. “Okay….how about Hermes. You sound mischievous…or Apollo…Coincidently why did you pick Zeus? Are you high up in rank or are you a ladies man?” She fired questions at him, her counsellor’s voice popping up.

Braxton laughed and she heard a thud and a groan.

“Are you okay?” She asked her voice full of concern.

“No. I hit my head laughing.” He heard a weird snort like sound. “Are you laughing?”

Splendora covered her mouth with her hand. “No, really I’m not.” She chuckled. “Okay a little.”

Brax laughed too. “It jus means I will be smarter.”

She rolled her eyes. “So come on. Why Zeus?”

Brax shrugged, stretching out his legs in front of him and leaning back into the corner. “Not because I am high in rank or a ladies man. In fact I am…not good with ladies. I am not good at speaking with them.”

“Well you’re talking to me,” Splendora said.

“Yes well…I cannot see you, I do not know your name, and if I could see you and did know your name I probably would say something dumb.”

She shook her head. “Come on. It can’t be that bad.”

Braxton smiled. “Ohhh it can. You don’t want me to tell you about what happened last week.”

Her lip twitched. “Oh I believe I do.”

Braxton ran his fingers through his hair. He really didn’t want to talk about it but…he’d probably never see this woman again….

To be continued….
