ON:

Eva sat on the couch, enjoying a quiet moment while she waited for Naois to return. The party he'd told her about had never happened as he'd conveniently been called away on a job shortly after she'd left, and in the few days he was gone, she'd found out there never was a party planned, another lie on top of everything.

She'd slipped into the dress he'd given her for the 'party', and awaited his return. He never said where he went, but Eva suspected he was off looking for a new mistress, a girl to replace her since the incident a few days before. He'd lied to her about many things and as she came to see the house of cards she lived in, she knew this relationship would end in death, be it hers, or his.

It didn't take long for Naois to come home. He looked exhausted and was covered in blood from head to toe. His expression brightened as he spotted Eva all dressed up. "Now this is a pleasant surprise," he stated as he approached and leaned over to kiss her. "Let me go get cleaned up," he added with a smile, "you're welcome to join me if you like."

The Vulcan traced the lace of her dress. "Ill enjoy peeling you out of this dress...."

Eva smiled demurely at Naois, "How about you clean up and change into something comfortable. Then you'll have all evening to take this dress off me."

Smiling at that idea, Naois quickly cleaned up and returned, dressed in cream linen pants and shirt that made his alien skin colour stand out. "I'm pleased to see you wear that dress," he said as he sat next to her on the couch. "You look lovely my darling." He leaned over to kiss her, then paused. "What's wrong my sweet?"

Eva leaned in close to Naois, tracing her finger along his cheekbone. "Nothing is wrong Naois. I just wanted to enjoy the date you promised before work pulled you away. I knew you would look forward to seeing me when you came home."

"I'm really sorry about that my sweet, I should've sent you a message it was very sudden but they needed me to conduct an interrogation. But ill make it up to you...i promise."

"I know Naois." Eva remarked, "You always have." She took his hand in her own, gently stroking it. "Would you like something to drink? Help unwind."

"I wouldn't mind a cup of your famous tea," the Vulcan replied gratefully.

"As you wish," Eva smiled at Naois and got up to prepare his tea. The replicator wasn't the most accurate but she'd managed to massage the file enough to produce a passable imitation. She'd have made it by hand but she didn't want to arouse his suspicion by deviating from her routine.

As the tea materialized on the tray, Eva discreetly slipped a small packet that resembled sugar into both cups. It wasn't sugar but a very powerful paralytic agent that resembled sugar in taste. She'd been careful to take the antidote as both cups were were laced with the poison.

Returning back to Naois, Eva handed him one cup before sitting down beside him and taking a sip from her cup, enjoying the taste of the tea.

Taking the tea, he sipped it gratefully. "Thank you, I've really missed your tea." He took a few more sips, then noticed the cup started to sag between his fingers, before he lost his grip and the cup tumbled to the floor, staining the expensive carpet. "Odd," he murmured, turning his had back and forth to examine it. "Could you get me a new one while I clean this up?" He stood, took one step, then crashed to the floor, now unable to move. "Eva...what's going on?"

Eva put down her cup and knelt beside Naois, gently stroking his cheek. "Oh nothing lover. A friend introduced me to something called Ryaxin. Perhaps you've heard of it?"

Of course he had, he used it plenty of times on his victims, letting them feel everything but taking their opportunity to run without having to restrain them. "Why?" he whispered as he tried hard to get up, but failed. He was at her mercy, unable to go anywhere but where she desired to move him.

~As if you don't know~ Eva thought to herself. Looking down at Naois, she smiled. "Why? The interrogator and murderer asks why. I'll tell you why lover." She removed her hand from his face as her smile turned to anger. "Because the moment I saw the fury in your eyes when you found out I was pregnant, I knew my days were marked. When you disappeared for several days, I knew you were looking for my replacement. Why else would you not come back to quarters for several days on a starship unless you were gracing another women's bed."

"No." The answer was short yet forceful, but not quite a shout. "I never looked for another, I was called away for work. I don't want another, there was only you my sweet." It was no lie but not the whole truth either; he wasn't quite working but he wasn't with another either. In that he was entirely truthful, there had never been another since she became his consort.

"Did you say the same to the other women? Did they also come to you in much the way I did? Pregnant and scared. What makes you think I'd think I'm any different, 'lover'? I wasn't the first women, but I will be your last." She paused. "You know once I laced your drink I marked us both for death? I give you the antidote you'll kill me because you can't trust me. I kill you your bosses will have me executed."

"They left," he lied. It was a lie he told so often, he had come to believe it despite knowing better deep down. "I'd never kill you," he vowed, "you belong with me. My mate..." it was the first time he'd literally called her his mate, but at this point it was a matter of survival and he'd tell her anything she wanted to hear.

"Left?" Eva laughed, "I suppose you could call it that. Of course, that they were never heard from isn't exactly suspicious is it?" She paused. "Now I understand what my boss meant when she said to be careful the first night we were together."

Eva climbed onto Naois, straddling his hips as her dress fell around her. "I'd really hoped this drug would've taken longer to react. I was looking forward to having one last night with you Naois, maybe even wake up in the morning and claim you died in your sleep."

"You still could," the half-Vulcan whispered sadly, "pretense is everything, it's all you have now. I don't know where those women went and I don't care. All I've cared about is you, and only you. I'm helpless, you can have your way with me if you want to, I can't stop you. How.." He faltered, then forced himself to continue. "How long do I have?"

"A few hours at most. I might have some antidote, enough to let us enjoy one last evening together, but not enough to cure you. Your going to die Naois, as will I most likely, but perhaps I can be merciful and let you have that at least?"

"You would've made a good match," Naois whispered, "a worthy mate." It felt odd to be at someone's mercy, instead of someone being at his mercy instead. And not just odd, it was frightening and for the first time since a long while, the Vulcan experienced fear. "You can't die," he whispered, "I have many enemies, you'll be safe." He tried to breathe deeply, but couldn't. He couldn't control anything anymore, it was only at her mercy that his heart still pumped blood around his veins, and his lungs continued to draw air. "I loved you," he choked out.

"My fate is no longer in your hands Naois." She leaned in and kissed him. "If you truely loved me the way I loved you, you'd have trusted me when I said the two children I carried were ours." She sat up again, "I will give you the antidote and we can share one last evening together."

"It's impossible." That particular resolve remained. "I can't father children, it's impossible. Don't you think I had that tested? That I had medical evidence to support it? I can't father children, I'm sterile." In his mind he was raising himself up to make his point but in truth he remained flat on his back, exactly as he had landed.

"And the DNA scan I had done of them when I found out pointed to only one man being the father. It doesn't matter anymore Naois. You killed them, you killed your children, you killed MY BABIES!!!" Eva screamed at him. She stood. "I guess you don't care Naois. So why should I care to give you the antidote and show you the mercy you never showed me?"

He had no answer to that, to him it still was impossible so how could she find his DNA on her brethren? "It's impossible," he whispered, "where are you going?" She had disappeared out of his line of sight and he couldn't turn his head to look at her or follow her with his eyes.

Eva came back holding a small padd, and a small box. Straddling him again, she held the padd to his gaze. Two small DNA strands sat on the screen, with the parental combinations extracted from the unique sequences. "Your DNA Naois. You've told me before DNA doesn't lie." She placed the padd down, "Still the question remains. Do you want to go out having enjoyed one last evening with your mate? Or should I just sit here and torture you till your body gives out?" She paused. "ANSWER ME!"

"I want to live," the disabled man answered. He had no answer to the proof before his eyes, because to him, the possibility didn't exist, didn't come into the equation. Unless somehow she impregnated herself using his DNA, the natural way just wasn't possible. "I don't want to die." His blue eyes flashed briefly. "And there's no way I can enjoy any time with you now, not like this. Not anymore. You betrayed me."

"Betrayed you?" Eva asked incredulous, "I never once did something against your wishes. The only thing I've ever done that angered you was get impregnated by you. And you call me a traitor?" Eva's eyes narrowed as anger built up inside her. She opened the box laying beside her and pulled out the small dagger. "A wise man once said that there's only one thing worse then death, and that is a jilted lover."

Eva traced the sharp point of the blade along his chest, drawing blood. "You killed me Naois. The day you killed my babies, you killed me." Digging the blade under his skin near his neck she smiled, "I'd repay the favor but there's no way you can experience the pain I felt that evening. Laying there as the only two things I cared about besides you died inside me, the pain of delivering death, I broke that day."

Naois had no response. Did she really believe he knew no pain? That he didn't know what it was like? Yet he held his tongue, knowing that no matter what he said, the answer would never be good enough. He felt the pain as the blade drew blood across his chest, tearing the fabric of his shirt. He felt the blade's edge dig into his skin but there was nothing he could do to stop her. "Then kill me and get it over with," he suggested calmly, "either way, no harm will come to you. if you planned this, and planned it right, no-one will ever know."

Eva looked down at Naois. How did it come to this? Was she always fated to be his lover and his murderer? "As you wish Naois."

Taking the blade, Eva stabbed it into the side of Naois' neck, severing key arteries that supplied his brain. She pulled the now blood covered blade out, wiping it on her dress, staining it a sickly shade of green.

Though he felt the need to struggle, to reach up and staunch the flow of blood, Naois was unable to and he felt his life drain away from him. He fought to draw breath for as long as he could, before his brain became too oxygen starved to let him speak. "I did love you," he gasped, "please....a last request....hold me, as I die...."

Eva looked down at Naois, torn between giving him his last request, and denying him in a callous fashion. Hesitating, Eva looked at Naois. Taking the blade, Eva stabbed herself in the gut. Wincing at the hellish pain she pulled the blade out before repeating the process once more.

The blade clattered to the floor as Eva clutched her belly. Her own blood now ran freely, soaking the dress. She smiled weakly at Naois, lowering herself onto him. She kissed him, gently stroking his face as the pair lay there dieing. "I loved you too Naois."

Watching in a horror he couldn't express, Naois felt a tear run down his cheek. "Now we live forever," he whispered, savouring her final kiss before life ebbed away from him and he expelled his final breath. His eyes were open, and though the light had faded from them, they still expressed surprise. His body lay in a haphazard fashion, exactly as he'd fallen, just narrowly missing the table, his arms spread wide, one leg slightly pulled up and twisted.

Sitting up as Naois died, Eva looked around the room. It had been a fairy tale that was never meant to be. Wiping a tear from her eye, Eva crawled off Naois' body and lay down beside him. She held him tight as her own life force slowly ebbed from her body. Going limp as she died, Eva remained curled up against the man she once loved.
