ON:

Though really needing to go to bed, Tyrion made straight for the XO's office after T'Vanna had informed him that he needed to report. However, she hadn't told him why the CO wanted to see him.

He was tired after having worked all night, but at exactly 5 minutes past 8, the intelligence officer pressed the chime to the CO's office.

"Enter." Holliday called back, but he knew already who was waiting at the dooor. No doubt Lieutenant Murray had wasted no time in sending her charge up to see him. He had already taken the liberty of reading back through the crewman's service history once again, paying particular attention to his own entry made not so long ago regarding a certain demotion.

Tyrion stepped inside and immediately took in the state of the room, before approaching the desk and standing at ramrod straight attention. "Chief Petty Officer Tyrion Faye, reporting as instructed sir," he stated, his voice holding a note of anxiety. T'Vanna really hadn't told him why he was to report to the CO, and by now he was starting to wonder if somehow he had done something wrong. Except, he was very certain that he hadn't....so what was going on?

"Sit down Chief." Holliday replied, giving a curt nod before gesturing to the chair on the other side of his desk.

"Lieutenant Murray has had....a crisis of conscience. She believes she is no longer capable of running her department...and has indicated that you may have some hidden talent that I am yet to be shown. Your thoughts?"

Surprised, Tyrion sat down and gave the CO a long stare as he considered his words. "Hidden talent sir? I'm not sure about that, but if I may...I do have field experience that she doesn't. I've noticed she has been feeling out of sorts ever since she had to leave her daughter behind and I've been doing all I can to help her out." He paused, feeling that he might be sounding too cocky, given his position. "What exactly is she suggesting sir? Why did she send me here?"

"She wants to surrender her position as department head, and wants you to take it up in her stead." Jonathan replied, deciding that mincing words and beating around the bush was simply a waste of everyone's time.

"That would of course mean your reinstatement as an officer of Starfleet....after recent events that unnerves me."

"I understand." Tyrion sighed. "I don't know how to prove my worth now, I've been working really hard since then and I've not gotten into any kind of trouble. Not even with the Klingons sir. I'm stable now and I am taking good care of myself, and my partner sir. I can only promise to continue to work hard...if you decide to reinstate me, I promise you won't regret it sir."

"Less of the Sir, Chief." Holliday replied as he lost count of the number of times the word was uttered. He could tell the man was nervous, and people did tend to fall over rank in these situations, something that couldn't be helped.

"Very well...a trial period then. I will assign you command of the department for now and field promote you to Ensign - at the end of the mission if you have proven yourself I will restore your commission as an officer on a permanent basis. Do we understand each other?"

"Perfectly sir," Tyrion replied, "I won't let you down s-" The captain's words sunk in and until then he hadn't even realised how often he was using the word 'sir'. "I won't let you down," he repeated, "thank you sir." Oh he couldn't wait to get to sickbay, and tell Grayson - even though his partner probably couldn't hear him, being in stasis. But, that'd have to wait until after he'd had some sleep. "Does this mean I move to alpha shift sir?" he asked, "or do I gradually shift over, because I've just ran gamma..."

"I will let Commander Stace deal with the shift rotation - discuss it with her at your earliest convenience." Holliday replied, conscious that his XO usually ran the duty schedules and he had no desire to start stepping on the Trill's toes.

"Now if there is nothing else Ensign?"

"No sir," the Betazoid answered, "and thank you for this chance sir." He smiled as he stood.
