Mission: Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: Outside docking hatch to USS Atlas
Timeline: MD45 1845

ON

Running as fast as his legs could carry him, Wintrow dashed through the corridors of Starbase 84, racing from the Galileo, to where the Atlas was docked. He needed to talk to the chief engineer before he departed onto his new temporary assignment, and the way things were now, he had to hurry too.

He spotted the engineer's form, and increased his sprint. "Sir!" he called out, panting for breath. "Wait!"

Asahi had been waffling between slipping into a Command uniform for the past four hours. It had been the only reason he was currently not in the Atlas. He had a bag in hand, of his few belongings, and his dog next to him, patiently waiting for Asahi to move from his spot. At the sound of the word 'Sir,' however, he whirled around on instinct, looking about to spot the frantic person that went with the voice. He eyed Wintrow as he ran over. "Uhm... yes?"

Coming to a halt in front of the chief engineer, Wintrow rested his hands on his thighs for a moment and leaned forward to catch his breath. "Sir," he panted, "I need someone to help me learn how to properly maintain the Galileo's support craft. I don't want to mess anything up when I tinker on them."

Quirking a brow, Asahi waited for the young man to recover before responding. "Tinker on-... Oh..." Without being in the Engineering Office, he couldn't assign someone the task, or even turn to ask whoever else was in Main Engineering about the whole thing. "... Well, don't tinker on them until you get some training-unless you have some basic training... but I'm not sure what I can do about that right now. I don't know if anyone will be able to... Tell ya what, if you can wait the mission out until I come back, I'll teach you myself."

"I did the maintenance for one before the inspection sir," the boy replied proudly, then brightened at the offer. "Oh I'd like that sir!" he beamed. What better way to learn than from the chief himself?

"You did? And it's not broken?" Asahi seemed surprised by this, but managed to correct himself. "I don't mean to critique your ability, I haven't even seen you work, but I'm used to people telling me that and following it up with an 'I broke it too.' I'm impressed. I'll make sure to keep you in mind when we're back and everything's settled. What was your name again?"

"No sir it's not broken sir. I was very careful and I studied first before doing anything to the shuttle. Chief Mialin was impressed sir." The youth smiled proudly. "Wintrow Paragon sir."

"Wintrow... Paragon." Asahi made note of the name in his PADD. "Shuttle repairs can either be super easy or super complicated. It honestly depends on whether it's running or not sometimes. But I'll make sure to schedule a training lesson or two with you once we're finished in the NIMBUS program. Setting myself reminders and everything, just so I don't forget." He gave the young man a wink. "You alright with that?"

"Oh yes sir," Wintrow answered gratefully, "thank you." He gestured to the waiting ship. "I shouldn't keep you. Thank you for your time sir, I appreciate it."

Asahi made a final note in his PADD before nodding at the boy. "Not a problem, Wintrow. Just stay out of trouble, yeah?"

"Yes sir!" Wintrow said, saluting smartly, but without appearing to be smartass about it.
