Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: USS Galileo Deck 3, Sickbay
Timeline: MD44 end of beta shift
ON:
Not even regretting one second with Kot, Tyrion had left the freighter in a very good and happy mood. But, their being together in a spontanous fashion had started to take it's toll on the young Betazoid. He could barely bear to wear his clothes now, and with a duty shift to tend to in only a matter of hours, or risk calling in sick due to some stupidity on his part - if one should call it that, after all...love was love right? - he reasoned going to sickbay was probably best.
He hurried into sickbay, hoping to find his favourite doctor on duty. "Tuula?" he called, resorting to the doctor's first name to get her attention. "Tuula, have you got a minute? Please?"
Though it wasn't her usual shift, Tuula for some reason found herself in sickbay at this ungodly hour. She was doing a little late night reading when she found that she had left her PADD containing the very latest research on Bajoran anatomy in sickbay. So, leaving her uniform jacket behind, she ventured back into sickbay to retrieve it. However, she soon found herself engrossed in some of Allyndra's research which she found on a PADD lying around. It was fascinating stuff, and what was supposed to be a quick stop by sickbay turned into a half hour of reading. She may have been there all night if she wasn't interrupted by the call of a patient.
"Tyrion?" she asked, rolling herself out of the office. Wearing just the short-sleeved undershirt from her uniform and a pair of comfortable pants, her tattoos were plainly visible. "You're lucky I'm here," she said, "this isn't my normal shift. Is everything all right?"
"No, I don't think it is.." Tyrion hesitated, uncomfortably tugging and pulling at his shirt. "I feel like I'm on fire. It wasn't so bad at first, but I feel like I'm on fire. My skin, my mouth, my..." He blushed deeply as he feebly gestured at himself. "I think I know what it is but it shouldn't be possible. "
"All right, take a seat on the biobed," said Tuula, pushing herself towards the medcart stationed at the head of the bed. She figured it was probably some sort of allergic reaction, though that didn't explain his discomfort. "What do you think it is?" she asked, rummaging through the medcart for a medical tricorder.
If possible, Tyrion's face turned even redder. "I think it's uhm....Bolian uh....stuff," he murmured in embarrassment, "you know...fluids."
"Fluids?" asked Tuula, raising an eyebrow, it taking her a moment to understand what he was referring to. She stifled a little giggle and begun her scans. "So, making up for lost time?"
"Please don't laugh at me doctor, this is embarrassing enough as it is. Yes fluids, you know, saliva and..you know. We spent two days together, though I did go on duty I just spent my free time with him."
"I'm not laughing at you, I'm happy for you, Tyrion." Tuula held him by the hand as she finished up the scan. "That said, sometimes you have to be careful in the bedroom. Especially when there's alien species involved."
"He did take a suppressant, he told me so." No longer able to bear the burning sensation, Tyrion tore off his tunic and tossed it next to him onto the bed. Then he took off his undershirt as well, and sighed in relief. "But he was very amorous, and now I'm burning all over. I'm not saying it wasn't worth it..." His eyes took on that same dreamy look as when he'd told Piet about the big Bolian. "Oh...please don't tell Doctor Mott? Please?"
"Relax, this will stay between the two of us," said Tuula, placing a hand on Tyrion's leg. She knew more than most about the subject, but chose not to let on, not even with someone as sweet and innocent as Tyrion. Thinking about the last time she was with a Bolian brought back too many bad memories. "Bolian bodily fluids can be very... potent. Not to mention a little corrosive. While most Bolians take suppressors before sexual interactions with other species, it can still cause discomfort and in some cases severe allergic reactions. "I'm detecting a histamine reaction," said Tuula, closing her tricorder, having gotten as much information as she needed. "I can replicate you something," she added as she took a hypospray in hand and turned towards the medical replicator.
Tyrion nodded in gratitude. "Thank you. Are you...are you telling me I'm allergic to Bolians?" His expression took on a hint of shock at that realisation. "Please, tell me I'm not allergic to him? Tell me, that we can still be together?" Well, whenever they would see eachother again, if they would see eachother again. Tyrion hoped they would.
"In layman's terms, yes, you are," replied Tuula, selecting a drug and dosage from the medical replicator in the corner. Having replicated five doses, she loaded one into a hypospray and placed the rest in a tray on her lap and returned to Tyrion. Taking him by the arm, she carefully injected him with the compound. "You should start feeling some relief within the next few minutes," she said as she pulled the empty vial out of the hypospray. "Now, you do know how to use one of these, right?"
"Would you be terribly surprised when I told you I actually don't?" Tyrion replied, while resisting the urge to scratch himself bloody before the drug started to work.
"Okay, it's actually very simple," replied Tuula, demonstrating with the empty vial. "Simply insert the vial here, find a vein, and press this button here until the vial is empty. When you're done, discard the vial." Tuula placed the hypospray aside and looked back up at Tyrion. "I'll give you a hypospray and four doses for now. They'll work best if you take them about a half hour before sexual activity," said Tuula in a professional tone, without a hint of discomfort at the subject matter. "If you need any more, come see me."
"I don't need them until I am able to meet with Kot again," the Betazoid answered sadly, "his family will depart very soon, and I won't be able to see them off because I'm on duty. It's very possible I won't see him again for a very long time...and well...there's no other Bolians on Galileo that I met... but thank you. If we do meet again, I'll come request the meds."
"All right," said Tuula, taking her patient by the hand. "Tyrion, I'm happy for you."
Looking up at her, Tyrion involuntarily sensed that she meant it, and smiled. "I am happy," he said, "and I'm going to try to say goodbye, even if I might be too late."
