Mission: Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 4, Section 12, Room 11 - Eva's Quarters
Timeline: MD 41: 1800hrs

ON:

Another shift down, another day without barfing all over some delicate piece of engineering equipment. By now her lost nausea shot was beginning to wear off and Eva lay on her bunk in quarters, the room gently swimming as she contemplated what her next move was, waiting for the next dose to kick in.

The door rushed open and a whirlwind of activity entered the room. Aeleni had brought her bag and personal belongings to her room earlier, but hadn't met her room mate jet. After seeing someone lying on the bed, assuming it was her new room mate she started rambling once again. "Ah, great. You are here. I'm so happy to meet you. I read that you are in Engineering. That's great. Maybe we will work together as well someday. I work in Operations you see. Do you want something to drink?" she asked as she walked to the replicator and ordered a cool beverage.

Eva, normally a bubbly personality herself, sat up. Fighting a wave of nausea as the medication hadn't kicked in yet, she looked at her roommate with a strange expression. "Say what?" A sudden wave of nausea hit her, and with far faster motion then earlier, Eva bolted for the washroom. The sound of retching could be heard, then the sound of water running, and Eva reappeared, a little less green around the gills.

"Here this might help" Aeleni said as she offered Eva the glass she had replicated right after the woman ran to the closest toilet. "It's water with lime and some other herbs, it helps calm you stummic." She was seriously wondering what to do next. More what to say or not to say next. She didn't wanted to but in something private.

Eva gladly took the glass as she sat down on the couch. The water was refreshing and she could finally feel the medication starting to kick in. "Sorry." Eva smiled weakly. "Not exactly the best introduction. My name's Eva. And to answer the obvious question, I'm about eight or nine weeks pregnant."

"Ah, well that explains, " Aeleni replied. "Are you feeling OK, beside the puking that is."

"Besides that, yes." Eva replied, "Was just waiting for the anti-nausea dose to kick in when you arrived." Grinning a little, Eva gave her roomie a brief once over. "So Tell me a little about yourself?"

Aeleni sat down at one of the chairs after getting herself another drink. "Well," she started with a smile. "I'm Aeleni Loni. One of the Galileo's new Operations Officers. Oh and mother of a five year old, so I know what your going through, well sort of. Just be happy you don't have my ancestry or your would be living at the toilet. Like I did for the first 9 weeks. It was horrible."

"I've been living on nausea meds most of the past week, ever since I found out. Those at least keep me functional." Eva nodded. "It goes away right?"

"Yes, eventually it does." Aeleni said with a sheepish grin. "You know, in the end it's all worth it. Holding your child in your arms for the first moment. That's such a valuable moment. It's really true what they say, the moment you hold your child you've forgotten about all the tribes and tribulation you had to endure for ten months." She tried to encourage the other woman. Her mother's encouragement and support is what helped her through those months, something she would do for her new roommate, if she wanted. "If there is anything I can help you with, feel free to ask. I know how hard it can be as a single mother."

"Thank you. My exact situation is a little up in the air right now as to what's going to happen." She leaned back. "Long and short of it is I got myself involved with another member of the crew. Without getting into details, I took a risk with the father, knowing that the contraceptive shot was ineffective in this situation, but having done this years before, I assumed I'd walk away cleanly. That wasn't the case this time."

Eva took another sip from her glass. "The father is being a perfect gentleman about everything and is willing to support me and the child in whatever fashion that may be, even as far as marrying me if I want."

Aeleni raised her eyebrow. "So your one night stand left a present behind. Sounds familiar." She said dryly. "Any idea what your gonna do? If your gonna take him up on his offer of marriage?"

Eva could sense there was more to the comment. "I'm a free spirit by nature and if you'd asked me three months ago I'd have said absolutely not. But now, thinking about what's best for the child, the offer is tempting."

She looked at Aeleni for a second. "Would it be improper of me to ask about your daughter? I'm guessing from your last remark something similar happened?"

"Let's just say one night stands with presents sort of run in the family. I am lucky, compared to my mother and daughter to be knowing my father."

"Ah." Eva remarked. "So you have some experience with this." She smiled back at Aeleni. "So aside from having had the same sort of present, what makes you tick? My off hours were spent chasing around holodecks and the like, when I wasn't out enjoying the company of others."

"I spend most of my freetime on the holodeck as well, skydiving, mountain climbing. That kind of stuff. We could go together sometimes if you like, although I think it's not such a good idea at the moment, not even with the safeties on."

"I think I'd enjoy that actually. Doctor did okay me to continue with recreational activities, as long as it wasn't too strenuous and the risk of injury to my abdominal area was low. Once I start to show however, they do want me to slow down on things, though low impact activities are okay."

"I don't think your doc meant bungee jumping and the likes with recreational activities." she said with a laugh. "But I'm sure we can find a holodeck program that we could enjoy together"

"Somehow I don't think that was on his list." Eva grinned. "But there's no reason we couldn't run a few hills on a snowboard. Safeties should protect me if we don't do anything crazy, and powder's naturally quite soft."

"You have a date!" Aeleni said with a smile. It was always nice to have someone to share a holodeck program with.
