Mission: Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 6 - Operations Office
Timeline: MD 41 - 15.31 hours

ON:

Aeleni walked around the ship, looking for the operations office. The last three years she had served on a larger vessel then the Galileo was. It took her months before she was able to find her way on it, even with the help of the computer. Hopefully she wouldn't need so much time to find her way around this time. When she has found the Ops Office she immediately went to the officer of her new Chief.

"Petty Officer Loni, reporting for duty" she said after noticing the woman with the Lieutenant pips on her collar standing near one of the consoles.

Min glanced up from a console in her office. While her office was nominally the nerve center of Ops, on a ship this small, the bridge tended to serve as the Ops Center of the ship.

"Petty Officer. Glad you could make it. Grab a seat."

She did as ordered. Tapping her feat on the floor she started speaking. Something she always did when she was nervous. Well, something she just always did, speaking. Although most humans called it rambling. "This room is much smaller then I had expected. I read that the Galileo is smaller then the average ship, and has a smaller set up. But still. Doesn't it bother you that you have to share your office with the whole department? It would me, never a minute to just quietly process all the information that comes in. I can't understand how you manages. But maybe that's me."

Min watched the Petty Officer with some amusement. She'd read the lady's work record and while her record was exemplary, her personality quirks were also noted as occasionally getting in the way.

"The Nova class is quite small as ships of the fleet go. While this room is nominally the nerve center for Ops, most of the time we work from the Bridge or Main Engineering where there's more space. As a result, despite appearances, this is my private office." Min paused. "I've been over your service record. No major concerns tho I am curious why you requested a Nova class? We're not exactly the best vessel for young families and you have a daughter I understand."

"It might not be designed for families, but it is better then a all purpose class vessel. I'd rather raise her on a science vessel. The chance of it getting shot out of the sky is much slimmer then on most vessels. I want to have Sise near to me, but she is safe where she is now, with my parents. Some day I'll be able to to have her with me on this vessel. Do you have children, Lieutenant? Don't you want them to be safe?"

"I have a two month old daughter, and yes I do care greatly for her safety. For an infant, care is not so difficult as her father is aboard as well. When Lian get's older however, there is not much for her in terms of interaction with other children, nor any dedicated schooling facilities for her. That will require I transfer my family to a larger ship, a Luna class for example."

"Size's father isn't in the picture, but she has my dad. I am planning to school her myself, after she gets on board. It might not be as normal as other children, but at least I can start raising her myself."

"I hadn't thought about that tell you the truth. I guess you don't think about those things when your first is still as old as Lian is."

"I've have been thinking about it the moment my daughter was born. Five years ago." She missed her daughter very much. In between her transfer she had been able to see her for a few weeks. The thought that her daughter was well and happy with her grandparents made the separation a little less difficult. With a slight smile she continued. "Making preparations for her is what keeps me going. I miss her so much"

"As cozy as this ship is Aeleni, we'll do what what we can to squeeze her in here so you can have her close by."

She smiled at her new Chief. "Thank you," She saw that she really meant it and it touched her.

Min handed a padd over to Aeleni. "Everything you'll need is on there. Quarters assignments, duty shifts, key locations aboard ship. We do use shared quarters so until your daughter is aboard, and perhaps even then, you will have another crewmen as a roommate."

"That would be a joy," Aeleni said energetic. "although I'm afraid my roommate won't feel the same after a while. I'm kinda hard to miss." She said with a chuckle. "They don't call me a bouncing ball for nothing."

Min knew Eva by reputation and her bubbly personality was why Min had placed the two together in the first place. But that was for Aeleni to discover when they met.
