Aria Rice smiled as she ran her hands through her hair to tie it back from her face. Her shift was starting soon, so she wanted to make sure she looked the part. And like usual, she'd start here. The Brig. She walked in, amazed by the lack of tribbles. It had been a good day's work, that had. She was knackered though, but she knew she just had to get through the shift, stay awake a bit longer and then bed early to recover. She could do it. It was more than just a little possible.
She checked under the bunk in the brig before standing, making sure it was all...well, how it was meant to be. There was a standard to uphold after all.
Luke had been pulling another late... early shift? He wasn't quite sure any more. The last few days had been so overwhelming he found himself turning up to work at a manor of different time's, between visiting Abbey and investigating his current predicament with one of the crewman aboard the ship he wasn't surprised when Aria had walked in. 'Gamma shift' He said shaking his head. This was a better time than any to recruit the help of the young ensign.
Walking behind her he smiled as he watched Aria do her daily routine. An ingenuous idea had crept into his mind and he walked over to the controls, activating the brig's force field before ducking out of view and planted himself against the wall a grin so wide on his mouth he was worried he would not be able to contain his laughter.
Aria walked forward before slamming back, gasping with the shock of walking into the forcefield. She looked at it with confusion before kicking it. "Damn it!" she shouted before seeing Luke. "Wyatt, what the hell?"
Hearing her voice shout out he couldn't contain his laughter and stalked infront of the cell "I was just checking the forcefield for you but now we're here... Remember that one time when our roles were reversed" he winked.
Aria looked at him, with surprise before laughing. "Because you were being a tosspot!" she said, shaking her head as she sat down on the bed, ankles crossed. "Come on, admit it...it got out of hand. But it wasn't like we were both angels."
He shrugged leaning up against the side of the wall "Well now, it only got out of hand because security let it get out of hand" He let out another set of laughs "I think I could keep you behind this forcefield you look cute!" He teased.
She laughed as well, watching him. "Oh, Security calms shit down as well as blows it up...you should know, you run the circus now..." she moved to cross her legs, watching him closely. "You keeping me as a mascot now?"
Luke nodded "Not a very appealing mascot though, I may have to ask Abbey to lend me one of her pink fluffy tutu's" He put his fingers into a frame around Aria "Yeah I could see you in a pink fluffy tutu"
"I have plenty of tutus myself, thank you!" she laughed softly, shaking her head. "In more awesome colours than pink, thank you very much!"
He laughed walking slowly and casually to the control console "Give me one good reason why I should release the beast?" He joked with his hand gliding over the forcefield controls.
She jumped down and moved to the forcefield, pressing her hands against it before snarling, trying not to giggle. "I will get you, Wyatt! As God is my witness!"
"Oh I very doubt you wont try to but dont forget im better" Luke couldn't help but laugh as he de-activated the forcefield but just as quickly re-activated in the attempt to unsettle her.
She gasped as she walked into it, falling back. She pouted, gesturing to her face. "This is not a happy face, Wyatt!"
"Oh it isn't I thought that was your happy place face!" He laughed finally de-activating the forcefield for good this time. He waited to see what she would do and wondered if his life was on the line.
She pushed herself up, rubbing her backside as she walked out with a pout. "You bully..." she said before pushing his arm, a small smile pulling at her lips.
Luke held up his hands "I was just making sure the brigs forcefields worked its not my fault you was slacking off in their whilst I was doing it" He said noticing her very faint smile.
"Hey, I was like so totally ready for duty!" she said and shook her head, with a small smile. "You mentalist."
He tried his best to look insulted but his wide grin stumped the flawless performance "I am not a mentalist! I am actually if anything the opposite I would never believe someone would even think of using that word to describe one self"
"Oh please..." Aria rolled her eyes, smiling as she moved past him. "You're impossible. You're as childish as I am at times and that is saying something..." she winked.
Stumbling backwards he winced pretending to be in pain as he sung a lyric from a song he had once listened to. "Shot through the heart, And you're to blame, Darling, you give love a bad name" Luke smiled groaning as he held the place where his heart was.
She laughed warmly, her eyes shining as she turned to face him. "Oh no...you are more like..." she considered it before laughing. "Like a bat outta hell you'll be gone when the morning comes! When the night is over like a bat out of hell you'll be gone, gone, gone!" she poked her tongue out at him, laughing.
Luke stood up and smiled as he began to walk back through to his office. "It seem's our classic 21st century music taste align somehow perhaps we were fated to be together" He winked."What I really wanted from you is to show you something" He raised his arm to his office. "Questionable ladies first"
Aria rolled her eyes, smiling as she walked through. "Is it Cardassian zombies? Because I so totally did that already..."
He shook his head walking in behind her "No its something you're going to have to keep between us" Luke said this as he blocked the exit knowing Aria she wouldn't want anything to do with keeping things from people but he was already completely stressing over the investigation and needed a different set of eyes.
She met his eyes before nodding, taking a breath as she got serious. "Well, show me the problem and I can see what I can do on the sly."
Luke went behind his desk and produced two PaDDs the one's he had been given by Ensign Tyron and Lieutenant Markos two different theories behind the murder both disturbingly convincing. "I dont know what to make of it the Ensign basically barged into my officer to make me see this and Markos is very concerned and convinced."
Aria took the PADDs, sitting down and stretching her legs out. She started reading it, taking a breath. After she was done, she watched Wyatt. "Both theories fit. It's a bit of a mess...want me to do some digging?"
He nodded simply before taking a seat and sighing as he leaned back and pinched his nose "If you can, but keep it discrete I dont want to take this any higher yet not until I have some sort of lead or evidence to proof them right... or wrong but im running out of time and options soon ill have no choice"
She met his eyes, holding them for a moment. "I'll talk to the Chesapeake. Don't worry, I...can play them."
He laughed "I don't even doubt that Aria! Thankyou" He said standing up from his seat "Well I guess you can get back to 'checking the brig'" He said with air quotation marks "And dont drool you strike me as a drooling sleeper type" He teased walking round his desk.
She stood and nodded, taking the PADDs. "I'll...you know, take these and do a bit of a dance about. I'll let you know at the end of my shift what I've found out."
"Great thanks for your help, I was reluctant I know how you don't like important things but I dont have a Assistant chief of Security and well you're my most trusted... I dont suppose you've ever?" He said stopping short.
"I'm not touching anything above regular Security," she said, smiling warmly. "Eventually you will get someone awesome there, but this is me. I'm the girl who got demoted and attacked by zombies...In the same week!"
He nodded with a smile "And I would have you any other way my iddy biddy Aria!" he teased moving forward and with his hand going to pinch her cheek childishly.
She hit his hand away, quickly. "No, no, no! I am working now, that is harassment of short women!" she teased before pulling away.
He laughed his arm dropping by his side "Fine go work short stuff but dont come crawling back when you're bored!" He said over exaggerating his words catching the eyes of the few skeleton crew security officers who were working.

I love reading how these two characters spark off each other. I literally never know what to expect once they're in a room together.
