Mission: Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo, Deck 3, Sickbay
Timeline: MD 07 - 1550 hrs

ON:

Allyndra came into her own sickbay but not as the doctor in charge but as a patient. She took a peek at the missing three fingers but the energy tendril had more or less cauterized as it had sliced at her. More or less was the correct choice though she was not bleeding profusely, the wound still continued to weep.

She went to the supply and dialed up a hypo more for an anaglesic though she would have to have the area cleaned and wrapped. Tuula was working here but Allyndra hoped to avoid the other doctor.

"Allyndra, can you assist me with--" Tuula's eyes quickly locked onto her hand. "What happened to your hand?!"

Allyndra sighed and turned. "I seem to have been a victim of the entities like some of the others." She held the ruined hand up. "Almost cauterized but it needs tending too and one suddenly realizes just how one depended on a full compliment."

"Let me see it." Tuula took a deep breath, trying to remain calm, as she rolled herself towards Allyndra. She didn't know how Allyndra could be so relaxed about losing three fingers -- Tuula knew if she lost her fingers, she would be panicking and would be constantly worrying about being unable to practice medicine, perform delicate surgeries, or play the harp. "Why didn't you say anything?" she asked, taking the damaged hand in hers for a closer inspection.

Allyndra did not want to say more but only replied, "The cuts are clean and as my Guild Mother would say, one cannot cry over split Blood Flower nectar. I was going to seal the area, there is residual weeping."

"Do you have the fingers?" asked Tuula, the concern evident in her voice. "Take a seat on the bed; If we hurry we might be able to reattach them."

"No. It was not long afterward that the floor we were on caved in. I suspect they reside in some rubble someplace." Allyndra flexed the remaining fingers. "I shall have to make do."

"Allyndra, I'm so sorry," said Tuula, still holding Allyndra's hand. "At least let me close the wounds for you. I'll just need an autosuture and a dermal regenerator, and I can fix those... stumps... for you." She stared up at Allyndra and awkwardly tried to offer her a comforting smile.

Allyndra shook her head in the negative. "No, they will be fine." She made a face and then made the lie, "Akkadian skin reacts badly to regenerators and the weeping has almost naturally stopped. However it still stings, perhaps an anaglesic and a new bandage?"

"Sure," replied Tuula. "You're not allergic to metorapan, are you?" she asked as she made her way to the replicator.

"No, that should work," Allyndra nodded. "I guess you will be doing the more delicate medical tasks."

"Yay! That means more opportunity for on the job training!" exclaimed Tuula, trying to find a silver lining to Allyndra's situation. "I'm sorry," she quickly added as she returned with the bandages and analgesic. "I didn't mean to sound so excited... what I meant was... I mean..." she trailed off and offered her boss an awkward smile. "Let me see that hand of yours."

Allyndra extended the ruined hand, "Nothing wrong with that but a little less exuberance would be appreciated." Allyndra smiled as she said it indicating she did not take real offense to the words. In her mind she already knew that those tasks would not be a permanent duty.

While carefully bandaging Allyndra's hand, Tuula found her own start shaking. With the adrenaline finally wearing off from all the excitement earlier, Tuula had for the first time an opportunity to think about the events of earlier that day. Though her feelings were masked with adrenaline at the time, she was badly shaken by her first interaction with the captain. To say they didn't get off on the right foot was an understatement, and Lirha was a flag officer. "Allyndra?" asked Tuula in a faint voice. "What is going to happen with... with the commodore? And with me?"

Intriguing developments from all the drama in sickbay, and some genuine humour flowing from their competing priorities. A great read!
