Previously, in 'Dragon Girl and Dino Boy: Part 1'...

Lily laughed at the display and clapped her hands eagerly. "Now we hunt for dragon eggs and dino eggs to join our gang!" she jumped high on the bed and off of it fearlessly, her arm thrust in the air before sprinting into the living room and swooping around it in the search.

Luke followed just as eagerly behind making swooping and dashing noises, he couldn't believe he was actually enjoying himself despite the fact how silly he was dressed and that he was running around pretending to be Dino Boy again.

And now, the conclusion....

Lily suddenly stopped in her tracks as she was confronted by a tribble in her path. She squealed, running back to Luke and behind him, jumping and clambering up onto his back to be off the ground and away from the ball of fluff.

Luke let out a chuckle as he examined the scene. Looking over his shoulder and then back to the tribble he paused before speaking. "What's wrong little dragon?" he wondered if she was just acting or if she was dates of the harmless tribble somehow.

"Tribble, tribble! Don't let them touch my boots!" she pointed at it from over his shoulder, shaking her head. "Aria said they make your shoes into zombie shoes!"

Luke held back a laugh as to not break the obvious ruse Aria had played on Lily. "Aria said that did she? What do you suppose we do with it then?" he asked looking over his shoulder as much he could.

She clung onto his back, swinging her arm to point at the large bag in the corner. "In there, in there! Don't let it touch my shoes!"

Luke stood up slowly and placed Lily on the table in the centre of the room. Signalling for her to stay where she was he moved to pick up the tribble. It purred as he grasped the ball of fluff and carefully moved it across the room.

"Careful! Don't drop it on your feet!" Lily covered her eyes with her hands...yet couldn't help but peek through her fingers.

Smiling he placed the tribble in the bag and turned to Lily. "It's all safe now, you can jump off there." He sat down crossed leg like he used to when he was at school. "Want to carry on our adventure little Dragon?"

"Dragon adventures?" Scarlet asked with a small smile of bemusement as she watched them from the doorway, having returned from work and clearly perplexed. "I'm not sure even dragon adventures warrant standing on the table..."

"Oh Heay Blake," Luke said quietly as looked saw Blake standing in the doorway and smiled. "Well see the craziest thing happened," he said between picking up Lily and placing her on the floor. "We were searching for dragon eggs when suddenly a Tribble blocked our path and knowing their super evil zombie shoe turning powers so Lily took refuge on the table whilst I dispatched the Tribble."

"Ahhh...." Scarlet laughed softly as she shook her head, undoing her uniform jacket and relaxing at the words. "Well, that's fair enough then, just this once. So how did you turn from Verity into Luke?"

Leaning up against the closest bulkhead Luke crossed his arms and explained. "Well, I kind of came to speak to you but you was away and well me and Verity got chatting and then he had to be called away." He looked to Lily. "And Lily was more than happy to carry on playing regardless anyway," he shrugged.

Scarlet gave a firm nod, searching his features. "Well, thanks for jumping into the gap," she said lightly, not quite sure where they both stood after the upset in the holodeck. "Lily, why don't you go and wash so I can get you a snack."

"Okay," she smiled brightly and ran off to her bedroom without question. If a snack was involved, it was worth it.

"What did you need to speak to me about?" Scarlet asked, still watching him even as she moved to set a pot of tea to brew, enough for two in case he wanted some.

Now feeling his heart race and his cheeks gathering warmth he cleared his throat. "Well, not so much as need just I want to clear the air." He shrugged nervously "I shouldn't have... you know forced myself onto you like that," he admitted turning away slightly as to not make eye contact.

Scarlet looked down at the floor, letting out a soft breath at the words. They relaxed her, oddly. "I was more annoyed at your reaction after," she admitted quietly. "I thought we'd agreed that we could still be good friends, and then....and then it seemed that wasn't good enough for you."

Luke shook his head, not sure if it was out of frustration or disagreement. Apart of him agreed it was a bit of both. "No its not... Well Yes but I want more Blake and I know you don't and probably never will but call it whatever you want, whether it's just a petty crush or a mid life crisis. I will always be your friend no matter what happens, I will play and look after Lily because she is an amazing child and you should be proud of what you've done with her and I will always be there for you but..." Luke paused realising he may have been a little too loud and looked up to the ceiling letting out a sigh. "I - I think I might be in Love with you Blake." He threw his arms up into a shrug. "It's stupid yes but there's something between us that I forgot could even exist."

"Luke..." Scarlet whispered with something close to pain, shaking her head as she sat down heavily on the stool. "We've talked about this," she shook her head, looking back to him, her eyes reddening. "I'm not looking for...that. I don't think I could deal with it. I'm so sorry..."

Knowing that this would be the reaction he would receive he didn't think it would hurt but Luke was surprised how much his heart could ache, in a way he was doing it to himself like a pebble being smoothed by the constant attack from waves on a beach.

"Scarlet..." he said quietly, also showing close to pain. "Don't be sorry Scarlet, just, at least treat me with a bit of dignity." He turned and faced the wall taking in a deep breath as he ran his right hand through his hair. "I can't tell you how much telling you what I just did kills me after what I've been through," he said turning back round to face her trying to hold back any emotion, just the corners of his eyes swelling gave any direction to how he felt. "I can't say or promise to know what you have been through because everyone is different but Blake don't you think you're at least torturing yourself?"

Sitting down opposite her. "I do it every day of my life, I lost my Wife and now my only daughter is sat without full mobility in sickbay and everyday I torture myself because I think I can't or will not do something and I never thought I'd find someone I could remotely fall for until I met you!" Sitting back with a sigh as he ripped away a tear that had managed to breach his emotional barrier and rolled down his cheek. "This may push you away forever but I thought you should know because I think you're amazing, the way you've managed yourself and your daughter the way you handle yourself as a starfleet officer there's no one quite like you and I can't believe you don't think you can handle things because you're a lot stronger than you let yourself to believe."

He stood up and shrugged and let the pause linger before finishing. "That's it Blake, that's me being me telling you everything I feel and think. The balls in your court but I already know what you're going to say, it's written on your face so at least save me the pleasantries so just do it."

Scarlet swallowed hard past the tightness in her throat. She turned her face deliberately away from him, so he couldn't see the tears brimming in her eyes. She hated people seeing her cry. Her body was rigid with it and half turned from him as she set her gaze firmly on her tightly clasped hands. "I like you a lot Luke. I really want you to be my friend. Honestly, I don't have all that many good friends I can rely on. I know I can rely on you. But I can't..." she shook her head with pain, licking her lips, taking a shaking breath. "...I can't be in a relationship. I don't think I can trust someone like that. Not anymore. I'm so sorry...I am, because I don't want to hurt you."

Luke could see that the conversation was a strain on them both and he slumped his shoulders before sitting back down. Putting his hand on her arm he let out an exhausted sigh, he had wiped his tears but could see her hair sticking to her face where it was damp. Stroking away the hair he tucked it behind her ear. "You know I'm a jerk, I've been chasing you so long I forgot why I liked you In the first place, you so independent and I guess I'm wrong for thinking you need anyone else maybe it's me who should be worried about hurting you," he tried to meet her gaze with his own.

"Luke, you're not a jerk, and you'd never intentionally hurt me, I know that," Scarlet said softly, shaking her head slowly and tiredly as she glanced to him. "One day, you're going to make a lucky woman very happy. I don't doubt it. And it will be someone without a tonne of baggage who can appreciate your generosity and warmth."

"Maybe I should just stop trying to be that kind of guy for the moment," he said looking at her holding her eyes. "And despite the rumours I don't intend anything with Tuula," he admitted with a shrug. "I'm sorry for all this Scarlet," Luke said apologizing once again.

Scarlet stood slowly and tiredly, kissing his cheek gently as she rubbed his arm. "You don't need to be sorry for how you feel. This is just...bloody life," she whispered, shaking her head with a frown at herself, blinking to try and get rid of the tears. "Let me know if you want someone to visit Abbey with you. We're still friends...right?"

Avoiding the question about Abbey he wiped away the last few tears from her face "I'm sure should be the one asking that question, you've done nothing wrong," he said cracking a smile. "But the answer will always be yes."

Scarlet gave a weak smile at the words, shaking her head gently. "Good," she said quietly.
