Stepping through a pair of small doors down on Deck 7, Lamar walked into the new workout room facility that had been installed on Galileo during shore leave. Strangely, he had never taken the opportunity to explore the new accommodations, but one quick look around revealed a very robust yet cramped gym which contained a plethora of different workout machines and equipment. Dressed in a gray Starfleet tank-top accompanied by a pair of black sweatpants, he walked over to a nearby mat and dropped his gym bag, then sat himself down on the floor and began a brief stretching routine. A couple other personnel were present, though Lamar -- with his headphones on -- barely paid them any attention and instead listened to music while he began to loosen up before his workout.

Abbey had already been working out for the past couple of hours, she had been unleashing all her frustration over the recent disagreement between her and her father. "You're so stupid" She said punching the bag and falling into it with a small sob. She always hated how her dad thought he was always right, even if he was she hated it more so. Wearing her black top with the letters USMC on the back and grey jogging pants logo'd with the planetary science logo she looked like she could be the best, or worst of both worlds.

As he finished stretching, Lamar caught a glimpse of a SFMC logo out of the corner of his eyes, and much to his surprise, it was adorned on the shirt of a young brown-haired woman who appeared to be beating the hell out of one of the heavy bags. Intrigued by both the prospect of meeting a fellow Marine and also curious as to why a Marine would be serving aboard Galileo, he quickly got to his feet and moseyed over to her.

"Semper Fi," he said, giving her a mock salute and pulling his headphones out of his ears. "I like your shirt. Are you still in the Corps?" he added.

Abbey turned around, wiping away a line of sweat form her brow. "Oh hey" She had been so engrossed in realising her stress into the punching bag she hadn't realised anyone else enter the gym. "This?" She asked pulling the top of her shirt so it was partially away from her body "No this, this was my dads he out grew it" She admitted shyly hoping her tears could be mistaken as sweat.

"Oh. Your dad's, huh?" Lamar felt a little awkward now after having approached her, but nevertheless he figured he could use it as an opportunity to meet a new crew member. "Sorry, thought you might have been a fellow jarhead," he grinned, then extended his large hand to introduce himself. "I'm Lamar Darius, chief support craft pilot. I was in the Corps for almost ten years before I recently transferred to the Fleet," he explained.

Abbey with her what seemed minuscule hands compared to his room the gesture and shook remembering to squeeze slightly so that her hand was completely limp "Abbey Wyatt, I'm on of the many science crewman on the ship" she smiled "My dad, he just recently transferred from the marines to"

Could it be? Another former Marine on board? "Yeah? Is he here on Galileo?" The name 'Wyatt' sounded strangely familiar and Lamar suddenly felt a bit more comfortable. He looked at Abbey more closely and noticed her attractive features, but also a strange look in her eyes which he wasn't sure was attributed to a heavy workout or something else.

Abbey averted her eyes away from Lamar when she noticed him studying her, "Yeah he's still on the ship as one of the security officers. I guess the only place right for him on a science vessel"

Hmm... Something about the words she had used didn't make her sound too pleased. "Makes sense, I guess. Right? I'm guessing he was infantry...so Security would be a good fit for him?" Hopefully he wasn't too off the mark with his assumptions.

She nodded "Of course he wouldn't have it any way but at least I get to see him here" Abbey replied almost telling herself than engaging in conversation. "I've never seen you before?" She quickly asked.

"Probably because I spend most of my time in the shuttlebay doing maintenance," Lamar explained with a small grin. "I don't get out much, especially with our command staff who seem to love deploying our support craft rather than using the transporters. But hey, can't say I blame 'em. And it gives me more flight hours."

Abbey gave a glancing smile "I can't wait to learn to fly a shuttle" She had pestered her dad to teach her but he always had something better to do. "My other choice for the academy was combat pilot but don't tell my dad he'll have a fit."

"My lips are sealed, young lady," he replied with his own friendly smile, then cocked his head in thought at her mention of combat piloting. "You know, you can always apply for flight training if you want...we're in need of a few extra pilots," he suggested with inquisitive raised eyebrows.

Abbey's mind churned as the thoughts went through her head grinding as all the possibilities came to life "Really?" She questioned curiously.

"Well...yeah, sure." He lightly shrugged while giving a little more thought to the matter. "It's not too hard, all it takes is a few hours in the simulator to get comfortable. And there's some coursework to do outside of the classroom, of course," he explained nonchalantly. It occurred to him that a science officer like her would probably be better suited for the academic nature of the program than some members from other departments.

"I'd really like that" She said simply not sure what else could have been said. She was being given a perfect opportunity to do something else and something she had on her bucket list.

"Stop by office on Deck 4 sometime and we can make it happen," he said, giving her an open invitation to apply for the training course if and when she was ready. "If I'm not there, I'm usually in one of the two shuttlebays doing maintenance." It was the drudge of every support craft pilot on the ship: maintenance. The job no one really wanted to do but was unfortunately a necessary evil.

Abbey crossed her arms and smiled "I might just do that! Thank you" She looked towards the door and sighed "I best be of, hope to see you soon" She gave the man a hug before heading to the door.

Lamar was a bit taken aback by the friendly gesture but gave her slim frame a half-hug in return accompanied by a big smile. "I hope so...see you soon I guess," he called out as she headed off towards the exit, now leaving him by himself in the gym to contemplate the meaning of life while he resumed his workout.
