Luke strolled along the corridor towards engineering, he had been looking at the preliminary reports of the current predicament the crew would be facing when they arrived at Lyshan Three. It was pretty sketchy at best but he had some idea's of how they would be able to react to any threats including the manifestation or ghosts as some of the crew had started saying, his own view was suspicious at most.

Abbey turned round the corner to see her father walking towards her smiling she gave him a quick wave "Cant speak long, really busy! Are we still on for tonight?" She asked turning around and walking backwards as she passed him.

"Sure, 1900 be there or be SQUARE!" his voice raised towards the end of the sentence as she disappeared around the corner where her muffled reply of "See you then, love you" rang in his ears. Walking up just past the rounded corridor she had appeared Luke found himself outside of engineering the hustle and bustle taking him by surprise.

"Urm Excu.." He said putting up his finger but was ignored as the ensign left and hastily made his way down the corridor in the same direction as Abbey "Hi, can you?" Once again he was not even noticed. Luke moved further into the room almost knocking over what appeared to be a tool kit but he couldn't have been sure. Looking around trying to spot anyone not busy he sighed. Leaning up against the safety railing of the warp core he noticed his foot landed almost on top of some loose glowing object.

The object in question had been one that Asahi had his whole team turning the whole of Main Engineering upside down for. It would have quite easily explained why Alpha shift seemed to be all a fluster at the current moment, and why Luke would have found himself ignored, even as he examined the object that now had his attention.

Reaching down Luke picked it up and examined the glowing cylinder object. It had eight small glowing tubes connecting the two metal rings at the top and bottom. He also noticed completely holy inside, putting it up to his face he turned around and looked through to the other end just like a telescope.

It was at that moment that Asahi had decided to emerge from the confines of the Engineering Office. Calling it 'his' office still seemed rather awkward, even after all this time, but he rarely argued with someone over the semantics of the office itself. It was where his work was, that was the important part.

"Petty Officer, have you found the signaling relay yet?" He frowned as the yellow-shirted officer shook her head. "... Well, keep looking. If that thing isn't hooked up to the antimatter compressor soon, then I-" Asahi trailed off, eyes catching the glowing object in the hands of someone he vaguely recognized. "Sweet jimmies and crickets, you found it!"

Asahi was quick to close the distance between himself and Luke, relieved that it was at least intact. "We've been looking for that thing for hours! Knocked clear off the circuit when someone was re-routing the compressor's programming nodes. Give it here so the Galileo doesn't burn to a crisp."

Luke examined the object of question 'Signalling relay huh?' he smiled to himself as she shook in disbelief he wasn't quiet sure what was happening, the fact that it was right here was amusing to him. 'Engineers... he thought. "Its urm, yours" He said holding out the relay.

The engineer handed off the object in question to an equally thankful petty officer, shooing him off to remedy the issue. "Thanks. That could have ended horribly." Asahi turned back towards Luke, frowning lightly. "... We've met before... on Rigel, yeah? There ware way too many names and faces... Wyatt, was it? What can I do for you?"

Happy that at least someone out of the security officer knew his name he nodded "That's right" He confirmed thinking back to shore leave. Luke was surprised that's how the engineering officer remembered him he had kept mostly to himself on Rigel and most of shore leave, he hadn't told anyone that he and Abbey had spread her mothers ashes. Shaking the thought from his mind he turned his attention to Asahi's question. "I was hoping to hear what you guys think about these manifestation we may be encountering if the reports are correct and if you would happen to have any counter measure burning away in your brain boxes?"

"Counter measures?" Asahi leaned against the safety railing, mulling the thought. "All we've really thought about, I think, is how we're going to go about investigating the manifestations, causes and things like that." He stroked his chin in thought. Everyone was so busy thinking about finding the things that no one actually stopped to think about what would happen if they actually did find them. He supposed that was what security was for. "... Shouldn't be that hard to rig something up though. We won't know for sure how to go about it until we know exactly what they are, which means I'll have to correlate the notes with Science again. Might be able to come up with a force field of some sort, if that's what you're thinking."

Luke processed the thought about having a way of containing the entities with a modified forcefield "That sounds like it'll be a good precaution but I was thinking something for the ground units? I know its hard to make things up without knowing more but we might not get that chance if we go down there and things turn sour, which I'm hoping they don't." He paused for a moment and sighed "Sadly experience had taught be otherwise."

Asahi shook his head. "I'm not exactly keen on sending anyone down without some form of protection myself, so I'm glad you're asking about it actually." Everyone was so concerned about being sent down there with a bunch of 'dirty Cardies' that most of them seemed to forget the real reason for going. "I was thinking less about containing the entities and modifying that field we had when we were on the Cube." The engineer stroked his chin. "I wouldn't want to using anything invasive, nothing that actually affects the entities or the mine, because that could cause all sorts of issues. But, if we had individual fields on each member going down there that could repel or at least deter the entities from attempting any potential harm on any of our crewmates, that would be a lot safer than any of the more aggressive means of deterrent. We could potentially have two fields, if I felt that containing the 'ghosts' wasn't going to potentially cause some unforeseen danger to anyone." He smiled, quirking a brow at Luke. "Should that be a sufficient start? I could probably bang some heads together and get something else going if you'd like."

Luke shuffled through his mind thinking about what Asahi had just suggested "I like your sort of thinking Chief, Its good that at least there's some intelligence going around the ship I fear that if something happens it might be partially to do with an overly bias crew" He sighed.

"Overly bias?" Asahi frowned. "I can't see how the mine's making everyone edgy, aside from some of the more superstitious sorts, but producing individual fields would put their minds at ease from the manifestations..." He furrowed his brow. "Unless you meant the fact that the mines are joint-operations with Cardassians. There are a few of those mindsets all over the ship..."

Sighing, "That's exactly what I mean, some of the younger and less experienced crew seem to have this huge chip on their shoulder about working alongside the Cardassians. I know they probably have their own agenda it would surprise me if they didn't I'm just worried that it will effect our ability to do our job safely and to the maximum of our abilities."

"I've noticed that." Asahi gave an agreeing sigh. "Someone says 'Cardassian,' and everyone's up in arms. It almost doesn't matter how old you are." He snorted in disapproval. "Seems like the racism's just been an inherited trait. It shouldn't matter if they have their own agenda or not. We should be able to stow this behavior without it interfering. But, considering the stubbornness of this mentality, it's probably safer to be prepared for just about everything at this point..."

Luke nodded in agreement "I just hope everyone can keep their professionalism to a maximum because I don't want to be stepping on any toes when it come to disciplinary, The way I see it they need to be told when enough is enough and if that doesn't work" Closing his eyes and shaking his head "It would be time to beat the drums anyway! Enough of that we're all work colleagues so we should trust one another right?"

"Mm... We're almost a family, with the amount of time we spend with one another. We should be able to trust the family to keep it together..." Asahi grinned. "But, just in case we don't, there's always the metaphorical smack on the back of the head."

Luke chuckled "Of course" Looking around he could see that engineering was still busy "Well it looks like i've already taken enough of your time lieutenant, If you come up with anything for the 'Ghosts" He said in a way he hoped she guessed that he was using the term loosely "or even for our crew upsets give me a bell"

Asahi nodded, giving the other a small wave. "Don't worry, I will. I'll make sure those shields get themselves rigged up too. We'll be prepared for anything we can see coming."

"And I'll work on being ready for the things we don't see coming" he said over his shoulder as he left the chaotic hustle, bustle of engineering. Luke had made a friend today and was glad that he could count on at least one other person to keep a cool head when it came to cardassians.
