Mission: Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo: Deck 1 - Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: MD 3: 1040 hours

[ON]

Amril transported aboard the Galileo for the first time in months. Everything seemed much the same, though he knew much had changed. He smiled politely to the transporter chief and made his own way through the ship. The computer located the captain and he boarded a turbolift. As the lift set out on its brief journey, the vorta considered the changes to his own situation. The admiralty had granted his request to remain aboard the Galileo, although they had removed his position and rankm which he found perfectly understandable. It did leave him with a bit of a difficulty though, what to do with himself now. He expected that would be solved momentarily.

The lift stopped on the bridge and Amril stepped off, nodding to familiar faces as he passed through, and taking note of the surprise on those faces he had never met before. At the door to the captain's ready room, he stopped and tapped the chime. The captain, he mused, probably expected him sometime that day.

"Yes, come in!"

Came the response from Holliday. As the doors parted, the captain could be seen comfortably settled behind his desk with his executive officer sat opposite. Signing off on a PADD he handed it back to Blake before looking up.

"Ah, Lieutenant! Take a seat, to what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Really, Captain, you flatter me," Amril declared as he approached the desk. "It is excellent to see you again. And you, Commander Blake."

Scarlet took a slight breath as she looked to him. They hadn't spent much time together at all. Perhaps it was coincidence. Or perhaps she had made sure of it. Growing up in the Maquis...it had coloured her view of vorta as much as cardassians. She gave a polite nod.

"I'm sure you noticed," the vorta continued, "Starfleet Command granted my request to remain aboard the Galileo, though they did not feel comfortable with me having a rank and senior position. Quite prudent policy, of course." Amril opened his palms nad gave a half-bow, the sign of deference his kind had a habit of using when addressing themselves to their superiors. "My expertise are at your disposal."

"Indeed. The Admiralty were less than thrilled with the idea of a Vorta serving aboard a starship. Apparently Commodore Saalm had to call in quite a few favours to get around them."

John replied, knowing full well that Lirha had gone into bat for their Operations officer, who if Starfleet security had been given the chance would have ended up in a secure facility somewhere.

"I trust you are up to speed with Starfleet operating procedures?"

Amril's reply was quite matter of fact. "Absolutely, Captain."

"Excellent. And you are happy to continue to serve in your capacity as a member of this ship's Operations division?"

John wanted to be entirely sure that anyone coming aboard his vessel did so of their own free will. The Vorta was not a graduate of the Academy, and was here of his own accord, or at least as it seemed so far.

"I can think of nothing else I would rather do, Captain," Amril replied readily, "That is why I made the request. The Galileo is such an interesting ship. Though, of course, the entire array of skills I have is at your disposal. Diplomacy. Advanced propulsion theory, if you ever need help with that again as you did when I first arrived. Oh, and I was was planning to explore anthropology some more in my spare time, it is a fascinating field."

Scarlet managed to keep a straight face. Somehow. A vorta. Advocating diplomacy skills. Sometimes, she was sure she was going mad. But her suspicions of it then reassured her that she wasn't. "I can think of no better ship for you to explore so many different fields," she agreed with a soft voice.

John nodded to his First Officer, glad to know that he had her support in the matter. In truth, the Vorta had been of great assistance during their last mission, and the Captain would rather hold onto an asset quite so significant than allow Starfleet Security to replace him.

"Very well. It looks like you have the seal of approval Mr Amril. Commander Blake will see to it that you are assigned a duty shift."

"Ah, excellent!" Amril declared, looking to Scarlet and dipping his head politely. "I do believe I will continue to serve under the operations department, no? I will be sure to meet Lieutenant Zhao."

John silently agreed. Starfleet had decided that it would be more beneficial for an Academy trained officer to run the Ops department, and as such Miss Zhao had replaced Amril as the head of Operations. The Captain could see why they would want to do something like that, and to a degree, could agree with it.

"Indeed. I suggest you check in with her as soon as possible. She will no doubt want to meet her entire team sooner rather than later. Commander - anything to add?"

Scarlet shook her head gently, her eyes steadily on Amril as she took a long, slow breath. Just because she didn't trust vorta, it didn't mean that she didn't recognize an asset when they had one. "No," she assured, even offering a small smile. "We can use all the help we can get across Ops; we had a lot of changes made to the ship during shoreleave."

"Very well. In that case I presume you have duties to attend to Mr. Amril?" John replied. The words of his XO rang true - with such a large mission ahead of them, it was going to be all hands to the pump.

"Of course," Amril replied, giving a bow as he backed towards the door. "Good day, Captain, Commander." He turned to walk out the door. "Oh, and Captain, it's good to be back." With a classic vorta smile, he stepped away and the door closed behind him.
