Mission: Episode 05 - Solstice
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 4, Geology Lab
Timeline: MD 59 1630 Hrs

ON:

Elijah looked around the lab and frowned. He wasn't sure what he expected, even after studying the specs of a Nova class vessel, he still wasn't sure what to expect. He certainly didn't expect such a small lab. It almost made him feel claustrophobic, but he wasn't sure if that was due to the lab or finally serving on a starship. He had just hoped that feeling would pass and pass quickly. He stepped up to the workstation that would be his to use on his shift and slid onto the stool and logged onto the system.

Abbey wondered into the lab with her long blue gown like jacket she preferred the loose style to the tight breast restricting uniform. Looking over a Data PaDD she hadn't noticed the other person in the laboratory and walked straight to her science station. "So that's how they reproduce" she said biting the inside of her mouth. An old habbit of hers. Placing the PaDD down she pulled out her ongoing project.

She produced a microscope placing it carefully and delicately on the work tops surface and began unfolding each individually carefully stored telescopic part, humming as she did so.

Keenly aware that someone had entered the lap, Elijah looked up from his station and looked over his shoulder. "Who?" he asked, as a scientist he was clearly interested.

Abbey let out a small shriek and jumped almost toppling of her seat. Turning around she had her hand cupped over her mouth "Gods you scared the life out of me, I didn't see you when I came in" She said calming herself down and stroking down her legs with a stretch.

"I'm sorry," Elijah said. It was the truth, he really was sorry, he certainly didn't mean to frighten the young woman. "I didn't mean to frighten you," he slid off his own stool. "I'm Elijah Williams, the new geologist," he said as he extended a hand.

Abbey smiled "Its fine I should have been paying more attention lucky for me your Human and not some Borg invader otherwise I'd probably be dead, my dad always says that I should 'Pay more attention to my surroundings'" She said attempting to mimic her fathers voice "Oh sorry, I'm talking to much again" Abbey cupped her hand over her mouth and with her free hand took his and shook it "I'm Abbey Wyatt, scientist mate I do a bit of everything but in my free time I like to study astrophysics and biology"

Elijah smiled as well, he could already tell the two would get along quite nicely. He waved off the thought, "you aren't talking too much." He looked over at her microscope, "so who or what is reproducing?"

Almost to excitedly abbey spun around and began explaining what she was doing "Well here I have two sample of a Biochemical agent which was found on Earth during the 21st century and here is almost the exactly the same biochemical but found on a small pre-warp civilization in the Alpha Quadrant."

After she finished pointing at the work area she turned around "You see I'm trying to find out if these two biochemicals hundreds of light years away were in fact at one point the same entity and if I can well I'm not sure what'll prove it could open a doorway to possibility or it could just be a very close match and I have waisted my time" She smiled "I hope its the first one"

Elijah listened intently, he couldn't help but get caught up in her enthusiasm. The biological sciences were not his forte, but as a Starfleet officer in the sciences division he had basic knowledge of it. "I hope it is the first one as well, it could explain a lot," he said. "But don't count out the second possibility, remember experimentation is never a waste of time. Just because they aren't a match doesn't mean we can't learn from that. Maybe there is still interactions, no matter how minute it is. Not to mention you would have studied the other biochemical and learned about it. Your knowledge can potentially add to what we are already know." He shrugged, "I don't deem that a waste of time. Especially if it broadens your knowledge."

Abbey smiled and shrugged slightly before straitening herself up right and brushing a loch of hair behind her ear. "You sound like someone who knows what there doing, so what does the geologist side of things like to do in their spare time?" She questioned.

He didn't really truly know but he had a general working knowledge of most sciences, including the biological. Elijah leaned against the work station and crossed his arms over his chest. He blew out a breath, "some geologists party, some go out with friends, some drink, some gamble, some have families and have barbeques on the weekends... this geologist mostly keeps to him." It sounded so pathetic but it was the truth. He shrugged, "my hobbies and interests are pretty mundane I suppose."

"Sounds like you have more of a life than I do and I thought I had a pretty good one" She teased "So what do you like to do?" She asked with a gentle smile and a curious frown.

Elijah returned the smile, so far he was enjoying the conversation he and Abby-Mae were having. "I am an outdoors guy, which is something I will miss being here on a starship. But, it's also worth it if it means getting to study other worlds." He shrugged, "I love art, love studying it and going to art museums to look at the various works. Though, I don't have a creative bone in my body. I tried painting and drawing, didn't go over so well." He chuckled at himself as he recalled the memory of taking art classes in high school. At least he attempted. His parents, especially his father, thought art was a big waste of time.

"You should try dancing, it its self is a creative art and by its own account is beautiful" She suggested, "Some males dont like the idea but those that do it a better of for it."

"Never danced in my life," Elijah said. "I don't know if I am bold enough for that one. I am kind of a shy one when it comes to social situations like that." He wasn't one who typically opened up like that, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to be involved in dancing.

"Its as easy as walking, it is after all putting one foot in front of the other! I could teach you" She grinned "I am a GREAT teacher" She joked.

Elijah found himself chuckling despite himself. He still wasn't sure or comfortable about the dancing thing, he just wasn't sure it was as easy as walking. "How about I think about it," he said. It wasn't a cop-out answer either. He would seriously give it some thought. "Sounds like fun though," he said. It might be a way to break out of his comfort zone, though it was... well, comforting in his comfort zone.

Abbey smiled before spinning on one leg bringing her other foot to her knee, he hair span freely as her head whipped round. "See its easy when you know how" She smiled setting herself down again.

"If I spun like that, I'd probably fall on my butt," Elijah said. "You probably have better balance then I do." He wasn't a klutz by any means, but he doubt he was even limber enough to perform a move like that.

Shrugging slightly "I never used to have this balance, I was quiet the klutz and was always knocking down vase's." Checking the time she looked down to the door and up again "I have somewhere to be but we should meet up some time!"

Knocking down vases? That seemed a little cliche but he had to admit, the young woman had amused him... in a good way of course. He could tell he was going to enjoy working with her. "Yeah, definitely," he said.
