With a shimmer, K'os rematerialized on a transporter platform in San Francisco leaving Halifax behind with a blur. He was disappointed that he wasn't able to see his father, but thus was the nature of being a Starfleet family. Once the green light was given he walked off in search for local transportation. It was warmer here, and he was glad he chose to change first before beaming over. Wearing plain tan cloloured flat front pants and a dark blue tshirt, he walked casually along with his Starfleet issued duffle over his shoulder. His thoughts wandered to Anne and their dinner conversation the previous night. She was worried that his father was purposefully avoiding leave, but seemed to feel better when he assured her that he knew is father well and that he was most likely just as frustrated with the situation as she was. He didn't really know what else to tell her. Humans processed their emotions differently than he did and what works for him took a lot of painstaking practice.
He decided to walk to his hotel, which wasn't that far anyway. He attempted to navigate through the crowds coming off the transporter platform with him. He was trying hard not to become overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety. He didn't like large groups of people like this. It was too random, and didn't have a sense of order to it. He ran a hand through his hair self consciously, for a moment he wished he could just manually wipe the feelings away.
Once he pushed past the throng of people he was able to walk down a park path that he knew would lead him to the particular street he was looking for. It was much more peaceful here. After a few minutes of strolling he decided to take a moment on a park bench to collect his thoughts. Today wasn't one of his best days. Perhaps he was just exhausted but it was hard to control his thoughts today. Lingering emotions kept flooding him, and he just couldn't fully dismiss his dwelling fears, and anxiety. He was getting better at it he was told. Everyday, he seemed to have more and more control and the bad days were getting farther and farther apart.
He was excited for this next step in his career. He was convinced of that. It wasn't a glamourous position, but he was part of a team. His contributions would make a difference to the entire ship. As long as he tried his best to fit in, things should go as smoothly as it did on the Mississippi. Why was he so worried then? He tried to analyze it like he'd been taught. He tried to sharpen and concentrate his mindfulness entirely on it, but it was elusive. He just didn't have the energy to try. A flash of anger threatened to erupt out of frustration. Concentrating instead on the memory of holding his newborn baby brother the previous day, his anger softened. Suddenly realizing he needed a distraction, he got off the park bench and continued on his way to the hotel.
He knew just the thing.
