Location: USS Galileo - Mess Hall

[On]

Mormont was quite glad that he was still alive. Him and Stark anyway. He knew they had lost plenty of people. But right now, he had a small slot to go and eat. And he had been doing this long enough to know that it could only and would only get worse later. He headed to the Mess, as it was one of the areas that still was somewhat clear. Ish. Sort of. Enough he supposed. And he could replicate some food or use the emergency rations. Whatever made it easier for him to just sit and eat.

Luke was already in the mess hall chewing away at a burger the chef Alex had insisted on finishing them off today even though the repliaters were back online. So ofcourse without being rude he accepted the offer. He was sat at the furthest corner away quietly thinking to himself about recent events. He found the most of the time he would be left alone to do what he wanted which he hated the most. He had guessed it was because of two things; either people were scared to boss a Marine about or they felt sorry for him either way he needed something to do.

Mormont grabbed a burger with a grin, loading up what he wanted. He looked around, finding a table with only one man. He walked to him, studying him as he approached. An actual grown up. That made a bit of a change. "Mind if I join you, Gunnery Sergeant?" he asked, easily recognising the rank.

Luke looked up with a burger half hanging from his mount, the corners of his lips moved but only a muffled noise came out. Quickly swallowing the last of his bite he tried again "Of course and by the way its just gunny"

"Ah, I only tend to call someone that once I've introduced myself," he said teasingly and sat down, smiling. "I'm Amon Mormont..." he took a bite of the burger and closed his eyes with bliss.

"You've not had much to eat the last few days have you?" He said laughing, Luke had made atleast three attempts to come to the mess hall and get something to eat, each turn resulting in eating half a dozen burgers.

He shook his head, smiling warmly as he placed it down, swallowing. "Been chasing Borg. Killing Borg. Almost killed Borg. Busy with the Borg..."

Luke cracked a smile "Just a normal day on this ship then eh? DId you come from the Venture? I don't remember seeing your face about"

"No, I'm in Security," he said and shook his head, meeting his eyes. "But you are from the Venture. I am sorry for your loss."

"Oh right! Thanks. Well you know we gotta move one, Ive Kinda learnt that lesson" He munched on his burger. "So we'll be working with each other soon then huh?"

"I suspect so," he said as he watched him for a long moment, with a small smile. "Of course, this isn't new to you, is it?

He shrugged "Actually it is, The Borg have spared the Galileo, Why? I cant even think of a reason for that and if I were a Vulcan I'm sure I would say it is very illogical for us to be still alive"

"Hell, I just say it's luck and stick to that. I don't question things in my favour," Amon said quickly, a smile on his lips. "Half of what we do is luck."

"I dont think I can agree with you more though I cant help but thinking we're walking right into a trap, until then we have to continue eating burgers and making small talk" He gave a small laugh as he ate the last for his second burger.

"Odd you should say that, because this feeling I have, it reminds me of...waiting for an attack. On a ship, knowing hell was about to break out, constantly on yellow alert..." he smiled gently, shaking his head at the memory.

"I think hell is currently a better option this is more like... infact this is just horrible. For a change I actually dont know how this will turn out" Luke started on his third burger the taste had started to become dull but he was still hungry and the conversation was going rather well.

Amon looked down at his burger, reaching to pick it apart. "It reminds me a little too much about the War," he finally said. "And the Borg are...far more frightening than another species. The Borg are...empty. And that emptiness frightens the living daylights out of me. But...tell anyone I said that, Gunny, and we will have words..." he looked at him and winked.

"Dont worry, I feel the same way. We're a pretty frightening and unpredictable bunch of race's but when it comes to the Borg its a whole new ball game and with this happening now. Its like counting down the days to our doom except you don't know when the finish is" He sipped his drink before munching more of his burger down.

He smiled as he watched him, relaxing at someone who understood. "A lot of the crew here are very green, so...we just have to show them that experience wins..."

"I noticed the same but what can you expect? Half of them are of medical or scientific background and have families aboard. I just hope the few of us are enough to make sure it stays that way!" He tried to sound sympathetic but it was somewhat resentful.

"We're going to have to be," he said and smiled weakly, watching him closely. He reached out and gently grabbed his shoulder. "I'm glad you're here. If only to up our chances."

"Thanks, lets hope that its enough" He nodded looking down to their empty plates, "Well it seems we have eaten our days supply of burgers, I best get off I'm sure there's someone out there who wants to be annoyed" He gave a light smile.

"Good luck. And I will catch you at another time, Gunny," he said teasingly, holding his eyes with warmth.

"Thanks and you to! And hell if we don't die in the next few days we can share a drink or two in the future! Godspeed Amon" He gave a quick nod before proceeding to his daily chores of annoying people and playing eye spy with himself.
