Emily had just gotten out of the turbolift from a possibly one of the more stranger lunches and was walking along the corridor to get to the bridge. See came up to the ramp and walked up to the bridge. There weren't that many people there so she didn't bother herself to say hello to anyone. As she came up to the Captain's ready room she made sure she looked nice and presentable. Then she rang the captains chime.

"Enter." Lirha called out from behind her desk when she heard the familiar soft sound of her door chime. Pushing her large stack of PADDs to the side, she sat up straight in her chair and tugged her uniform top down to straighten it, then looked towards the door while wondering who was outside and required her presence.

Michaela walked into the ready room seeing her orion captain sitting at her desk with with a Stack of PADDs next to her. "Oh i'm sorry ma'am, I didn't mean to bother you." She said kindly and softly.

The captain watched a brown-haired, purple-collared woman walk into her office and noted the officer pips on her neck. With the influx of new personnel from USS Venture recently, Lirha had had trouble keeping track of all the new arrivals, but easily recognized an unfamiliar face when she saw one. "Hello, lieutenant." she said politely. "It is no bother...how may I help you?"

Michaela smiled and looked at her Captain, "Hello, Im Lieutenant Michaela Young, The new Chief Diplomatic Officer." She said as she looked around at the captains desk. "I just came by to officially report in."

New chief diplomatic officer? Lirha frowned, having not yet heard or been notified of such a new arrival. "I see..." she mumbled, mostly to herself. "Do you have your orders with you, by chance? I must apologize, things have been rather hectic around here lately and I have been having trouble staying on top of all the new personnel reassignments ever since our influx of rescued crew members." she explained, hoping the woman had a PADD handy which contained the details of her reassignment.

"Im sorry captain, I wasn't aware that I was required to bring my orders with me. I can go back down to my office and get it, or maybe the bridge could get it for you?" Michaela suggested. She looked at the Orion Captain, she was quite happy to see an Orion in the captains chair. Not many of the Orions Females she had met where in starfleet.

Lirha shook her head then gestured with her green hand towards a nearby vacant chair across from her desk. "No, it is alright. Please have a seat." she replied with a small smile. "Give me one moment to look up your service record..." she activated the LCARS console on her desk and began to tap away at it while she procured the required information.

"Alrighty." Michaela said as she pulled the chair out a bit. She took her seat and looked at the captain working to find her service record.

Half a minute passed after which Lirha finally found herself staring at the woman's Starfleet record and assignment history. "Ah, here we go. Let me see...your last assignment was USS Venture..." she mumbled out loud, more to herself than anyone else.

"I see no official transfer request here, but if you would like to offer your services, I would be able to put one in for you?" she offered. "I am terribly sorry about your former ship. That must have been an awful experience." she added with sympathy for the survivor.

"Well I had some experience with stuff like that. As I'm sure you can see on my medical record I was treated for something that happened during a peace talk, some extremist group set off a bomb killing quite a few people and severely injuring the captain. So not my first taste of this stuff." She said, she went on for quite a bit explaining her history which the captain could clearly see on her screen.

Lirha discussed different points of the lieutenant's previous service for a while before pausing and adjusting herself in her chair. "Well, you seem to have a good deal of experience working in the Diplomatic Corps." she concluded. "Can you tell me a bit about your previous assignment on USS Venture? Specifically what type of work were you primarily doing aboard the Galaxy Class?"

"Um I had just transferred to the Venture when everything happened so I hadn't really settled in. But I have a pretty good idea of what I would be doing if you'd like?" Michaela asked relaxing in her chair and placing her hands on her lap.

"Yes, please. It has been quite a while since we have had a diplomatic chief on board, and I am interested to know your perspective on the position." Lirha answered. Of course, she had her own opinion of what a CDO would be doing, but it was always good to hear it from the person who would actually be occupying the position.

"Well before the Venture I was an Assistant. I had a huge job there as peace talks where going on. I really had to help the Chief and coordinate the department on what to do. Then when the peace talks finally went through the extremists went and bombed the place. I've just been looking for a routine assignment nothing with borg or terrorists." She said.

Lirha smirked. The Borg were apparently a force to be reckoned with in their current sector of space, and she was fortunate that her ship had not yet encountered them. That, however, did not mean that her new CDO should not be diligent. "I am afraid Galileo is not as routine as you may think." she began in a soft voice. "We are currently in uncharted territory and there is much uncertainty regarding our current operation." she added.

"That's fine, if we make first contact it'll give me something to do." She said grinning at the Captain "As long as they don't plan on destroying us I think it'll be ok."She said.

The captain raised her eyebrows with a bit of speculation and concern. "Lieutenant, your previous ship just encountered the Borg...and they do not destroy...they assimilate. Entire worlds, cultures, and ways of life. They are the most destructive force the Federation has encountered in the galaxy...for many individuals, death is preferable to the aftermath of Borg conquest. I cannot speculate about what our future, here, may hold, but it is possible we may encounter them again. How do you feel about that?"

Emily thought for a few seconds on what to say then smiled and nodded "Well I didn't join starfleet to just sit behind a desk all day and write reports. I dont mind being in battle, hey It may give me something to do. But if its the borg, I dont think they'll be willing to negotiate." She said.

"Me neither." Lirha concluded a bit solemnly. In her experience studying various Borg encounters, diplomacy was definitely one of their strong suits, not was it a tactic of theirs which was commonly used, to say the least. "Regardless," she changed the subject slightly, away from the Borg, "I think there will be plenty of opportunity for you to to enact diplomacy. Our duties take us to various worlds across the quadrants -- both known and unknown -- and it is inevitable that we will be making contact with other races."
