Mission: Episode 04 - Exodus
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 6, Cargo Bay 1
Timeline: MD 01 - Time 2200

ON:

Allyndra went though the set up in the Cargo bay which was being converted into basically a field hospital. She had hoped that there would not be too many injured but one never knew.

People bustled setting up cots and some of the orderlies were already getting intravenous and monitoring equipment set up and ready. The normally big empty cargo bay was turning into what she thought was a first rate field hospital.

There was a receiving area and from there the staff could determine the course of action. It reminded her of her time on other ships and visions of severely wounded seemed to fill the temporary beds like ghosts. It was not something that she liked but at least she had the experience.

Field hospital and emergency work even in this century had a messy and noisy aspect to it. Allyndra could along with the ghosts of the past hear the slight screams as well from those times past.

Whatever had happened to the Venture or rather its stardrive section had been violent and she braced for the worse including the cases that she knew she would have to evaluate as fatal. The ones that would never leave here at least not in anything other than a box and all she or anyone else could do would be to make them as comfortable as possible. Her mind could not help but remember a past incident, a young man, burned and injured beyond even today's science. There the ship had been on bare power with the supplies limited and she had resorted to the only way to give him comfort. A kiss on the wrist. He had jumped just for a moment but then as her natural analgesic kicked in he had drifted talking about hopes and dreams until with a one last deep breath he was gone. Allyndra shook and shuddered for a moment at the memory.

She had sat there holding his hand as his body temperature slowly matched her own. Again, she shook her head to get rid of the memories. The Galileo was not damaged as that ship had been. Allyndra knew it was time to get her head in the here and now, there would be incoming soon and they needed to be prepared.

An set of orderlies were working on a field hospital set up and from the looks of it, she could see they were having some trouble and she headed over to help.

Like Allyndra, Delainey couldn't helped but be plagued by wisps of memory as her physical body went about assisting the triage set-up almost mechanically. Perhaps the only benefit of having experienced so many medical emergencies thus far on Galileo, if one could call it that, was the order within the chaos of the unknown. The procedure, the routine, the rhythm of it, was familiar. Carlisle had been ashamed that despite her medical experience elsewhere, she had become overwhelmed when assisting the triage following the Klingon boarding.

Kohl, then the Head Nurse, had helped Delainey forgive herself for her reaction, and now Delainey knew how to move past her shock and get in gear. Approaching Allyndra, she wondered if their ACMO might need assistance. Every posting was different, and Carlisle had learned that knowing how to react aboard one ship didn't necessarily translate to another. In her case, she had to let go of the notion she was going to be safer here than elsewhere.

"May I help you with anything, Doctor?"

Allyndra was startled a little out of her reverie. "Ah, Lieutenant thank you, just getting sensor feeds hooked up correctly on this field bed. I have not had a chance to double check those yet over there." Allyndra indicated a set of beds along the starboard side of the cargo bay. "Before you go, I would like to ask doctor, do you feel more comfortable with assessment and emergency stabilization or field surgery?"

Delainey considered that for a moment. She would do whatever was required of her, but the ACMO was asking about her preferences. "Assessment and stabilization is my preference, but I like to stay flexible," she added with a grin. "Feel free to call on me for whatever you need."

She could still use a little help with the setup and even though she thought they had the staff she decided to go ahead and activate the EMH not knowing if the Chief had yet or not.

"Computer please activate Emergency Medical Hologram"

After a few moments of holoemitter-fizzling, the EMH materialised with his usual blank expression like the metaphorical holographic genie from the holographic lamp. Taking a moment to focus it's optical subroutines onto the officer that had called it's program forth, the EMH was quickly satisfied that she was indeed an authorised member of the Galileo's crew and not part of a hostile takeover.

"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

"Not exactly an emergency," Allyndra knew that phrase was the standard boot up phrase. She was slightly surprised though that this programme was slightly different at least in appearance. "However, let us say a needed job. We are setting up a triage due to a major disaster on the Venture. Field beds eight through eleven need to be evaluated for proper functioning."

"A major disaster? Why is it that the more photonically-natured members of this ship's crew are the last to hear about anything? Very well. I presume that sufficient equipment and supplies are being transferred from the medical stores and from Sickbay?"

The hologram was a little miffed at the fact that once again nobody had bothered to inform him of what was going on. These organics seemed to be quite happy to forget about the collection of photons and forcefields that had patched their oh-so-frail bodies up so many times since this ship was commissioned.

Allyndra suppressed a laugh at the comment. The EMH was correct but it was also a wonder that the various computer areas of which it was apart did not interact with each other better. She would talk more, but as it was there was more important matters.

"I do apologize that you have not been sufficiently informed. Considering the scope of the disaster was just recently found we have all been taken by surprise. Now then, I think I have managed to arrange sufficient supplies but between orderlies and regular recruited crew for setup we could use with a skilled pair of eyes and hands. Now the beds doctor?" Allyndra tried to be polite but work was at hand.

"I'm a doctor not a maid - I represent the most advanced holographic design and medical database known to the Federation....who apparently has nothing better to do than prep emergency accommodation. Very well."

Turning away with a slightly dissatisfied look on it's holographic face, the EMH headed towards the triage beds. Each had been quickly replicated and set up by the various medical orderlies currently rushing about the converted cargo bay, and generally they had done a good job. There was of course the occasional missing dermal regenerator, disconnected sensor and missed hypospray, which the hologram would have rectified sooner rather than later.

Allyndra again just had to suppress a laugh. It was pleasant though to have the wit and the mirth it brought for now since she knew there would be much more sadness later. Turning she attended to checking out the beds. Everything seemed to be ready for the first wave of people from the Venture.

Triage was looking good and ready to receive patients. Everyone had worked hard and Allyndra was happy to see such efficiency. It was obvious that this crew had worked together well and she hoped she would integrate just as well.
