Some Concerns

We've just got our new orders... to assist with a colony building project in a trinary star system. That would be interesting enough, but there is also a scientist coming along who has created some sort of hybrid biological-synthetic intelligent lifeform. Her goals seem quite ambitious... introducing this lifeform into a colony building environment, working in close proximity to living people. I have personal reservations about the wisdom of this project, but Starfleet has given the doctor their blessing, so who am I to argue?

The mission aside, overall things have been going smoothly in engineering. Serious issues have been few and far between, but there have been a couple of incidents that have concerned me.

Recently a routine maintenance cycle in the ship's starboard nacelle almost resulted in a serious injury... possibly even a fatality. Two new crewmen were performing the cycle and allowed an unacceptable interval of time to pass between scanning for lifeforms and starting the maintenance cycle. Naturally the one moment they were unsupervised is when this occurred.

Thankfully no one was hurt, and the officer who was almost trapped in the nacelle seemed forgiving enough to let the matter pass. No disciplinary actions have been taken, though of course the incident was properly logged and addressed so as to see that it does not happen again.

Another incident of lesser concern is the partially-consumed bottle of alcohol I found hidden behind an access panel within engineering. I have an idea of who may be responsible but at the moment I have no proof. I'd prefer to keep the matter within the engineering department and see if anyone steps forward and claims responsibility. If no one does, then I will have no choice but to ask security to open an investigation. Obviously, drinking in engineering cannot and will not be tolerated.
