Admiral's Log, Stardate 67837.5

We have just departed Jupiter Station and are now en route to the rendezvous point to join with USS Semmes. If all goes well and there are no delays, I estimate we will be arriving at the Celes system in twelve days. From there, it should be a simple matter of navigating the planet's atmosphere to the surface where we will land and begin deploying permanent structures.

The landing site itself seems to be in a good location. It was chosen for its proximity to a nearby river delta that helps local soil aggregates and makes the land especially fertile during the spring and summer months. The average surface temperature when we arrive is expected to be around 4 degrees Celsius -- while not warm, the planet's orbit is now on the backswing of its apoapsis and the environmental conditions are set to improve over the coming weeks.

Nevertheless, there will be some expected obstacles mostly due to the planet's gravitational shift as it approaches its sun. Unstable plate tectonics and weather systems have been reported from several years-worth of probe observations, and these will present the biggest threat to the colony. Volcanic activity has recently been sporadic but is expected to increase as the planet's surface crust warms and warps. It will be...an interesting challenge, and I admire those colonists who volunteered for such an endeavor. Perhaps colonizing a barren world such as Luna or even pre-terraformed Mars would have been an easier task if for having no other challenge except the lack of breathable oxygen.

Computer, end log.
