Admiral's Log, Stardate 67826.2

I have been issued new orders for Galileo along with a new mission to oversee. It is an exciting time, I suppose, for it has been long while since we have last deployed on an official mission from Starfleet. I have worried that such an extended shore leave would affect both myself and the crew to make them complacent instead of ambitious, and it will be a challenge for all of us to resume our normal operations after such a hiatus from the fleet. Time is relative to all, however, and I suppose for some of us the sentiments will be different. Either way, it will be important for the senior staff to monitor their departments and for the command staff to keep a close watch over the entire crew.

Our orders are now to escort the colony ship USS Semmes from Jupiter Station to the planet Celes III. I have never visited the Celes system except in passing, and from what I understand, this new colonial world will be a difficult task. Its orbit is apparently very elliptical which greatly influences the surface conditions, and it has taken Starfleet over fifty years to develop technology suitable enough to withstand such volatility.

I suppose I should mention this new...'technology'. One of the heads of Starfleet's Applied Sciences Division, Doctor Iroh, will be joining us. She is bringing along one of her new artificial intelligence prototypes, an android unit that she has been developing over the past ten years which shows promise within the scientific community. This new colony will, in theory, present a good challenge and testing environment for this android and will allow Starfleet to observe its operational capabilities.

I cannot help but mention that I do not entirely approve of this idea -- I do not even really approve of the idea of creating new life forms, for that is for the spirits to decide when they so choose. At the same time, no one can discount the contributions of Data and the exocomps to the greater good of Starfleet. We have learned so much from them over the years and they have shown us that life and sentience goes beyond the biological. Perhaps...if this experiment goes well, we can add our names into the science records of a new race of Federation members.

Computer, end log.
