Galileo day 1
Sim hours 2.5
Live FLight hours 0

Have been told its nearly a week till departured. Its going to be a long haul to that thousand hours at the conn at this rate. Assuming 8 hours a day thats still 3 years and a bit before I can go for the test piloting program at Utopia Planetia. And thats doing it every day. no breaks. no shore leave. grr.

Have survived first day on Galileo, though still docked. Only flying to be done with it for now is restricted to Simulator. Got a couple of hours in on the holodeck. Much better than standardized Nova sim, as uses data from actual Galileo performance. Like all cap ships the thrusters and inertial dampers are little better than useless for anything other than relatively gentle manoevres on a level plane. On other hand, thrusters and in-damps are less useless than on anything bigger than a destroyer. So won't feel quite so much like piloting a sofa and might actually survive nasty encounters in debris fields.

Mal came to see me off and managed to score within thirty seconds of the docking hatch open. Nearly tripped over the POs tongue as I stepped on board. Going to miss the Queen Anne. Am not going to miss Mal distracting everything with a skirt in a three light year radius. Had forgotten how annoying that could be.

I think I broke the counselor. I went for by pysch evaluation, and she had some sort of panic attack whilst I was talking about Mum and Dad. That was awkward. I hope she's okay. Admiral is rather scary looking, but survived without being eaten alive. Says Galileo is a girl. Not convinced, but will know more when it wakes up and talks to me properly. Had a one sided chat today, and think I scared the living daylights out of the chief engineer when she found me in the nacelles talking to the ship.

At some point am going to have to talk to rest of Flight Control. I have a department. With actual staff. And one of them used to do my job, which isn't going to be awkward at all. I am so not looking forward to that. And I need to find out what else these people can do. I'll read their files tomorrow, but its not the same as seeing it in action.

In the meantime I've got the new Captain Bloodbeard to read, Bloodbeard's Revenge. Back cover blurb says: When obsessive navy officer Commodore Hawke scores a devastating victory against the Hades, Bloodbeard decides enough is enough and plots a revenge that will destroy his old nemesis once and for all.

Should be awesome
For rum and booty!
