A slave's tale

428 words; about a 2 minute read

Glad he was permitted to record his daily comings and goings, as a means of having something to do on his own time, Rheneas sat at his desk in his bedroom.

"I have a good life...I have nothing to complain about and yet there's others who think I have every right to complain. I don't understand why. I don't remember my Human family, I was too young to remember when i was taken away from them. I don't really remember how old, maybe three or four years old, and I was taken into her majesty's household. I was trained from a very early age to care for her, and I recall that we played together as children. Not often and not long, but it allowed me to get to know her."

Rheneas paused his tale, listening as other slaves went about their business while he had a moment to himself.

"I learned to tend to her needs even before she realized she had them. I learned to take care of her cosmetic needs and make her look pleasing to others. I learned to please her. Others don't seem to understand that I really have nothing to complain about. I've always been treated well, and I've done my best to do things right. It's not my place to judge who my queen takes as a mate, nor is it my place to judge if that place should be mine. I'm pleased if she chooses me for the night, but I have no feelings about the fact if she doesn't. I have a good life, I'm allowed to take care of myself and make myself look pleasing and clean. I need to be like this, if I'm to take care of her. I need to be strong, and viable if I am to tend to her needs."

He paused again. "My queen now has a mate, a lovely feline and I am already looking forward to taking care of her too. She has beautiful fur and I can't wait to learn to tend to it properly. Should my queen ever find and read my logs, I hope she knows that I'm happy. And with the coming battle, I know where my place is. I don't know the Terran Empire, I have nothing with it and I've no desire to return to it. My place is here, with my queen and my lady. I'm their servant, until the day I die."

The Human servant secured his recording and put it away, rising from the chair to return to his duties.
