"Chief Engineer's Personal Log,

It still feels weird to say that," the young Trill began, "For some time now I have been working to address some flaws with the Nova Class design and while simulations look good, the reality is something different." Grayson flopped down on his bed, staring at the ceiling as if the answers to all his problems were written on it.

"The Nova is a great little ship, but she sometimes needs more power than what she can produce leaving us lacking in some areas. With the war games coming up, I'm expecting prolonged times of battle. She won't be able to keep up for too long." A very frustrated sigh could be heard in the recording as Grayson pulled a pillow from behind him, place it to his chest and wrap his arms around it for a hug. "I have been batting some ideas back and forward. One we can implement now on a temporary and emergency basis and an idea for a longer term over hall.

"It starts like this; the Holodeck. That system is used to handling large amounts of power for a long time. In times of red alert, no one is using it. If I remove just a few safety protocols, we can use the system as a large buffer or battery for power. Channel it where and when we need it. The actual power itself would come from a bleed off of other systems or the main reactors. Taking fractions of a percent from each system would mount up over time. Imagine a sudden boost of power to the shields, the weapons, the new deflector. It could tip the balance between success and failure, dare I say it, life and death.

"For a more long term approach though, I would need to find a way to present this properly... there are a few crawl spaces or other generally inaccessible areas of the ship where I would like to install a similar system. Conduits of just pent up energy we can use to boost systems. They could remain at a slight charge during normal operations, start charging them at a yellow alert and use it like my holodeck theory for a red alert. They do run a risk of overloading the EPS grid if struck by weapons fire though, shielding is a must."

Grayson's head swirled for the next few seconds as he reached out to find answers in his mind that just were not there.
