ON:
Impatiently, Wintrow drummed his fingers against the surface of his desk. Nesh was out for her shift, but he'd just come off his and so he had some time to spare. Soon, in a few days, the wargames would begin and he'd not have any time to talk to his guardian. If only subspace would hurry up already! The young hybrid Betazoid was the picture of impatience as he waited for the call to connect.

"Hello?"

It wasn't Alex who answered but a little girl, she looked both amazed and confused at how the horrible little beeping machine had gone from being horrible and beeping to the picture of another person.

Watching the girl for a moment, Wintrow leaned forward, studying her. "Who are you?" he demanded, a little taken aback at Alex not answering his call. His dark eyes studied the girl who he didn't recognize. "Where's Alex?"

"Oh!" She turned her face away "Alexander! There is a man!"

Man? Wintrow blinked in surprise at the screen then realised that yes he was a man, wasn't he? He was an adult, a teenager but still an adult, wasn't he? Considered to be one by most, anyway. "Hey!" he called out towards the screen, which faced into an empty room now. "Alex! What's going on...I don't have much time, please!"

"Wintrow?" Came a disembodied voice, Alex walking into view, he must had been making dinner, from the way he was dressed.

"Yes!" Wintrow called, a more cheerful tone filtering into his voice, his eyes shifting to a minutely lighter shade as he felt happier upon seeing his beloved Guardian. "Yes Alex it's me. I'm sorry I took so long to call, I'm so sorry but things happened and for a while I wasn't able to, and now I'm feeling better and I miss you so much! I have so much to tell you....but you first, who's the girl?"

"Oh this is Angelique." He smiled at the young man on the other side of the screen. "Say hello to Wintrow."

"Hello Wintrow." She made the added gesture of waving too.

"Angel, can you finish your eggs without burning yourself?" Alex held up the spatula as if holding a piece of treasure.

"Sure I can!"

"Good girl, you go do that while I talk to Wintrow okay." He smiled and relinquished the utensil, the little girl running away excitedly.

"She can already cook better than Mason." He whispered.

"Mason just doesn't want to learn," Wintrow chuckled, "he loves your cooking too much so he purposefully screws up. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I'm alright now, and that I'm back on duty and soon I'll be learning to fly a starship. I've recently gotten certified to fly shuttles. And uhm..." He blushed a little. "I think I'm falling in love Alex...with a girl..."

The counsellor leaned in close and whispered. "Like a girl-girl?"

"Yes Alex, someone with two X chromosomes. An Orion girl, she's my roommate. She's on suppressants so it's not her pheromones. I really like her Alex...but I'm afraid to ask her out... I did go with her to her sister's wedding on Rigel...kind of as her date, but not quite, you know?"

"Not quite, how does not quite being a date work?" he raised his eyebrow.

"Well, there was no romantic intention. I was just her plus one, and I've been the perfect gentleman Alex. Nothing happened between us, we barely even danced." The teenager smiled. "You see...she's the admiral's sister...so I have to be very careful, I don't want to risk the admiral's wrath if her baby sister gets hurt in any way."

"I have no doubt you are anything but a gentleman Wintrow, it must have been all those pointers you took from me." he coughed "But hey, maybe next time you should dance with her, if nothing else dancing is always fun."

Wintrow bowed his head. "I don't think there'll be a next time Alex. I mean, I like her, I really like her...but right now I can't bear anyone touching me...I've been really sick recently...and now I don't want anyone touching me."

"Sick? Have you been to sickbay?" Alex's voice steeped with concern.

"On Rigel yes," Wintrow said, still not looking up. "The doctor treated me, and I still need to see someone but there hasn't been time. But I will, I promise. I'm feeling better now though, you don't have to worry. Galileo has an excellent medical team."

Bakura tilted his head "I thought I told you before, it's my job to worry." he smiled at the young man "Just promise me you will be okay."

"Eventually," Wintrow promised, "but I'm alright now, physically. And I'm loving my job Alex, I'm learning a lot of new things here and I'm happy. But you still haven't told me who Angelique is... is she family?"

"She is now." Bakura smiled at the little girl just out of shot. "I kind of broke the prime directive bringing her back with me... but shhh don't tell anyone okay."

"You know I won't," Wintrow promised him. "I have to go soon Alex...I'm off duty but there's still trainings... we're having a wargame coming up so I need to practice flying. I don't want to screw up by flying into things." The younger man smiled. "I still miss you Alex, and Mason too. Tell him I said hi?"

"Of course I will." The counsellor smiled. "And you be careful okay. Just try your best and I know you'll be fine."

"I will." Wintrow pressed his hand against the screen. "I'll get in touch again after the wargames, I promise. I won't be able to communicate during them. Say hi to Gwen for me too please..." He smiled. "Goodbye Alex, I love you."

"I will." Alex pushed his fingers up to the image of Wintrow's "Good luck. Love you too little brother."
