Captain's Log 010

[ON]

Galileo will be returning to space in but a couple of days time. Lord only knows that I have been looking forward to this ever since we first put in to spacedock. There's nothing I hate more than being on a starship with nowhere to go - or indeed without the capability to go anywhere.

The ship is being retrofitted with a prototype deflector array, and the crew have shown admirable skill and effort in making sure it has been integrated with our systems in both an efficient, and complete manner - I'm sure the new array will bring even more capabilities to the ship's arsenal in the field of scientific endeavour.

Speaking of admirable - Commodore Saalm has received a promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral - to my knowledge the first of her species to ever reach such lofty heights within Starfleet. This puts me in a quandry - historically my dislike of Admirals has been absolute, but this one I have served with ever since she held the rank of Commander, and I find myself unsure as to quite how it should be handled. I suppose I may have to make an exception in this case.

The Galileo will be taking part in the NIMBUS trials shortly - whilst this is traditionally a combat-heavy endeavour, I feel that the training and experience it will bring to our crew will be very much worth our time. That said - Admiral Saalm did mention that perhaps my services would be required elsewhere within the fleet, and in that case - I look forward to being able to experience another ship's capabilities in comparison to our own.

For now, I will spend my remaining shore leave refreshing myself on Starfleet and Klingon tactical training, and also gathering an idea of who we will be up aganst.

Computer end log.
