H'au 'Atina swirled in the snow watching the young girl. The crystal of ice she had put in her eye had brought her to her lonely land. She had known it would for it distorted the world.

Here in her lonely and barren and cold world it would give the impression of warmth, invitation and acceptance. In the winds as the snow swirled she whispered, "Girl, what is your name?"

Araylinda looked all around but no one was to be seen. The voice had seemed to come from everywhere and yet nowhere all at once. "Araylinda," she responded.

"Araylinda," the voice came again whispering in the snow. There was a long pause and then the voice came again to Araylinda. "Why are you here child?"

Araylinda shivered in the creeping cold that she now seemed to feel. "The world was so ugly, no nasty I could not bear it anymore. Here," she turned in the snow, "here seems beauty and welcome but while it seems to be warmly inviting it is cold."

The winds whipped for a moment and the snow swirled hard settling on Araylinda's shoulders. The snow continued to form until it formed a cloak and Araylinda found as she drew it close that is was warm. Magic her mind thought.

The voice came again, "There that will keep you warm for now. I have had no one to talk to in such a long time. No one to share with, just my sister and that is only for a little while. Will you stay with me?"

Araylinda scarce had to spare the thought and she nodded, "Yes, yes this is so beautiful here. "

The snow swirled hard and seemed to coalesce into a woman of exceeding beauty who extended a hand. "Then come be my friend, my daughter, for you will be known as H'au Kaimene."

Araylinda let the name move on her tongue and it felt good. She reached forward to take the beautiful woman's hand. As she touched it, there was a feeling of warmth and of belonging that she had not felt in such a long time. "Mother," H'au Kaimene said, for she was no longer Araylinda.

"Daughter," the woman replied.

Years passed as the two shared and talked and danced amoung the cold peaks and the swirling snow. Time seemed to have stopped and no longer existed in that world and both where happy.

H'au Kaimene grew to love her new mother and in return H'au 'Atina loved her new daughter that relieved her loneliness.

Then one day Mother I'nio came to the cold mountains. She saw the girl with the snow cloak and she called on her sister.

"H'au 'Atina, sister, who is this that I see?"

"She is my daughter, H'au Kaimene. Is she not lovely? She relieves my loneliness." H'au 'Atina replied.

I'nio looked at the girl and remembered her. She is the girl that used to fly on my winds and laugh and tease me is she not?"

"The very same," her sister replied.

"How did she come to be here?" I'nio asked.

"Ah! Remember sister when you asked for my help? Well, I put a crystal in her eye that made her world look ugly and mine to look beautiful."

Mother I'nio was swirled in her storm clouds and lightning flashed, "Why? She did not deserve this."

"I was lonely, and she and I have grown to love one another!" H'au 'Atina shouted back with the groan of ice.

"It is a love based on a lie!" Her sister shouted, then I'nio softened knowing how sometimes she felt the loneliness of her own existence. "At least give her a choice"

H'au 'Atina rumbled as an avalanche but her sister had wisdom and she knew she had done wrong and the truth of the words settled in her cold heart. She softened and called to her daughter.

"Daughter come here, there is something you must know and decide."

"Computer close log and mark."

[Closed and marked]
