Commodore's Log, Stardate 67195.6

Shore leave is over. I am a bit sad that I could not spend more time on Rigel, but I suppose a month was much more than I had initially anticipated. Nevertheless, it was a fun and very relaxing trip, and I think most of my colleagues who accompanied me also enjoyed themselves. Nesh had a great time...almost too much of a great time, but she is still young and I remember those days. Few commitments, few responsibilities, mostly just the freedom to run around and enjoy life. For me, however, duty calls.

I have reported back to Starfleet HQ and checked in with the dockmaster. The ship refits are complete and we are scheduled to depart dry dock in less than three days. Along with a new interior deck arrangement, Galileo also has a new bridge module which I am anxious to see. It seems our engineers put much time and effort into upgrading our little ship, and our upcoming shakedown run to Deep Space 9 will be our first chance to test its functionality.

Most of the crew are in the process of returning from shore leave, and with an upcoming systems check in 48 hours, everyone should be on board and ready to resume their duties shortly. I admit, I am looking forward to being back in space. No matter how much time I spend planet-side, I never seem to be able to call it home like I do on board a starship. Perhaps there is something strange about the vastness of the unknown which attracts me...or perhaps I was simply born to explore the cosmos.

Computer, end log.
