Path to Destruction Part .3

Posted on 12 Oct 2013 @ 3:51pm by Commander Luke Wyatt

745 words; about a 4 minute read

USS Venture, Marine quarters, One hour until the destruction of the Venture.

Luke stood uneasily he wasn't one to be superstitious however his dream last night felt as real as it gets and if he's dream was anything but real then even he was scared about the outcome. The Venture had now split of into two parts he was currently in the Stardrive section of the Venture. It alone was a starship by its own accord. "Jason, hows things looking"

Jaosn Limped in with two other corporals by his side, somehow he had made a miraculous recovery and for that at least he was thankful. "We're good, everything seem's secured and locked down, no signs of anything. The venture has been scanning the Nebula for half an hour and nothing has come up."

Somehow that didn't comfort Luke that much "Good, Go get some rest, we've all deserved it I'll just finish up some things here" he sat down on his desk rubbing his forward with his palm. Things just didn't add up.

49 minutes later...

After an eventful quarter of an hour Luke finally shook of his De Ja Vu and had made his way to the mess hall with Jason and Liam. The Trio sat at one of the window tables staring out bored. "Hey, better safe than sorry right?" Jason said. He was obviously trying to cheer Luke up but it didn't help. "I just could have sworn, you know?"

"You went with you gut? Just be thankful that nothing happened!" Liam added sipping his drink of tea "Besides gunny in one week you're be back with your chick... Serena right?" He gave the gunny a wink.

"Yup, I feel sorry for the sucker who has to put up with you guys!" He chuckled looking at Jason who was staring out of the window. He couldn't tell if it was shock or horror that was painted on his face "Jason are you alright?" He asked turning and dropping his jaw "What the..." The next few moments happened so quick that no one really ahd a chance to react.

The air ignited with the wailing sirens and red lighting of red alert followed shortly by the large and unmistakable sounds of explosion as the ship shuddered violently sending the three Marine to the ground along with everyone who wasn't secularly attached to their seats.

=^=All Hands abandon ship I repeat, all hands abandon ship=^= Luke staggered to his feet grabbing Jason and Liam of the floor "Move it Marines, the nearest escape pods are a deck down take the jeffries tube and take as many people as you can and grab weapons on the way!" He launched them in the direction of the door.

Out of the window was a Borg Tactical drone and at that moment had launched another volley of torpedoes. "Brace for impact!" He hit the floor once again and the ships shuddered this time the explosion seemed closer and suddenly all hell broke loose. The window to the mess hall cracked open "Everyone out now!" People were screaming and making their way out of the door.

Luckily by the time the window exploded everyone had managed to make it out of the mess hall and were already running towards the lifts, to the jeffries tubes, anywhere they thought was safe. Luke could smell smoke coming from several location and quickly dove into one of the jefferies tubes that lead to deck 4.

Crawling as quickly as he could he could feel the air get finer as fires burned though the ship and life support failing. It was clear that the venture was totally taken by surprise.

He had just made it to the end of the tube when he could see Liam and Jason shouting to hurry up but before he could reply one of the maintenance panels exploded burning Luke's arm instantly "ARGHHH!" He shouted rolling on his side looking at his arm. Luke couldn't tell the difference between sleeve and arm as both were now one as the heat had managed to meld both together, the pain was extricating.

The last thing he could remember was feeling a hand, no loads of hands grabbing his shirt and pulling him through the last 2 meters of the tube before everything went black. The final thing he pictured was Abbey and how he had let her down.
