Captain Saalm - if you are seeing this file then it means that the computer has recorded me as dead, KIA or MIA - this document was prepared in case of my loss during a mission, and has therefore been delivered by the computer accordingly.

I do not know exactly how I am going to die, but I have always hoped that if I were to lay down my life, that it would be for the greater good of the ship and her crew. We may not have always seen eye to eye in the beginning, but there was always one thing we agreed on - the safety of our crew.

If at all possible I would like my memorial to be held at the Academy....I may not have always enjoyed my time there, but it is where I spent more time thinking about my career in the Fleet than anywhere else. Plus I feel I owe the Admiralty one last insult by daring to interrupt their carefully planned lessons plans by taking up space for my funeral.

All my belongings I leave to whoever wants them - there was nothing of particular value beyond some books, a few ancient Earth figurines and relics, as I say, nothing of significance so please feel free to do with these as you wish.

In my personal file you will find a letter addressed to my parents - the encryption code is a standard Starfleet Intelligence cypher so I presume you will have no problem breaking it. I would...appreciate it, if you would deliver this yourself to them. My father, although not overly fond of Starfleet, would probably appreciate a little pomp and circumstance in this matter.

I also enclose a list of current serving officers in the fleet that I would recommend to take my place as your First Officer - they are all exemplary and I feel would best suit your command style. A word of warning though - don't let them push you around - this is your ship, and their job is to serve, not the other way around.

Other than that, I have no specific requests to be carried out - I just hope that however I died, it meant something, to someone.

I am pleased to have served as your XO - it brought out skills and talents I never knew I had - I feel I have grown more as an officer in the past weeks and months than I had grown in my entire career beforehand. Oh that reminds me, say thanks to that kid sister of yours - that babysitting job you gave me when she first came aboard - really made me remember why I joined the Fleet.

Galileo is a good ship, with a good crew, and a good CO - whatever those assholes at HQ say, never forget that.

See you in space Captain.

Oh before I go - that reason I joined Starfleet? For the journey.
