Personal Log 007

Posted on 01 Apr 2013 @ 2:20am by Lieutenant Commander Pola Ni Dhuinn M.D.

585 words; about a 3 minute read

"Computer begin personal log...."

As the terminal on her desk lit up, the image reflect back just showed the Chief of Medical longuing back on her seat as she twirled the stem of a rose between her fingers. The expression on her face was soft as a small smile settled on her lips.

"Where to begin..."

The image showed Pola shifting in her seat as she finally looked up, her eyes focusing on the screen as a certain reality seemed to settle in their depths. As the terminal recorded, it showed her finally placing the rose back in a vase to the side before the Doctor rubbed her arm as if she might be cold.

"I'm extremely worried about Jeremy...there's words I could easily throw around but my fear would be on the effect it might have on his career..."

A silence descended as the terminal showed Pola's eyes glancing downwards, her right hand still holding her leg arm.

"...whatever I can say, I can say this...he's a very troubled man. Whatever happened to him in the past has scarred him deep...it makes me wonder if ever he will be properly right away in his life.

Pola's eyes glanced from the table back to the terminal screen as the image showed her sitting still, imaginary clogs ticking inside of her head.

"I know some of it from his medical records, limited information pretaining to his physical condition when he was recovered, information which hints at what lies beneath. Although I could easily access his psychological records, and have the jurisdiction to given what happened and my position, it still feels like it would be an unfair intrusion..I can gauge what I need from his behaviours and that alone is enough for me to be scared for him."

As a silence descended again, the terminal showed Pola shifting in her seat again, her hand loosening its grip on her arm before she dragged her fingers trough her hair, letting out a deep breath slow and even.

"Sometimes I feel that I wish I could speak to Cyrus about this. Like the time we talked about the incident he would listen and give what advise he could. But then I stop and think, if it fair of me to do that. Cyrus is a member of Jeremy's department. Even of there was no breech of patient-doctor confidentiality, what right have I to speak to others about an individual, even possible a friend..."

As she went silent again, the terminal showed Pola pull her fingers from her hair in an almost frustrated move before her eyes focused on the screen, a veil of unshed tears in their depths.

"God listen to me...noone would guess that I'm a woman incharge of my own sickbay, and they'd probable react in absolute shock to learn that I am a Lieutenat Commander...I am meant to have the answers to everything after all."

As the image seemed to shake, Pola pushed herself away from the desk as she used the back of a hand to swipe at her tears before they had a chance to fall.

"I just need a good nights sleep that all. A chance to reenergise my batteries and come back afresh in the morning...right?...."

Without awaiting an answer, the woman leaned across the table. As her hand reached out, the monitor went black but not before it had opportunity to record a single drop tracing the curve of Pola's cheek.
