Personal Log 1.5

354 words; about a 2 minute read

I have been informed my previous log is insufficient. Yet when I asked for guidelines on the topic, content and length required of a personal log, I was told that there were none to be had. Personal logs were to be personal.

I fail to understand how my previous log could be insufficient when there are no guidelines to be had regarding what would merit sufficiency. Yet I'm told that a personal log should be personal and contain thoughts, opinions, reflections. I do not care to share any of these. Even with a computer. Most especially with myself. I already possess these thoughts, opinions and reflections, why would I need to share them with me?

So, I am once again reminded by someone of Socrates writing "the unexamined life is not worth living."

A long pause in the record while Jeremy merely blinks at the screen several times, folding his hands in front of him.

Why do people get offended when they say things like this and then are corrected on their misinformation. First, there is no direct evidence that Socrates ever said or wrote this statement. The phrase comes from Plato's Dialogues and is attributed to something said by Socrates. However, Dialogues was Plato's way of expressing his opinions and believe in a conversational form. By giving the line to Socrates, Plato hoped to give it more weight. Then, of course, people are not interested in learning that maybe an examined life is not worth living either.

Jeremy brings out his PADD and reads, remaining quiet for some time.

Why do the same people who insist I keep a personal log of ideas, thoughts, opinions and reflections also insist that I should not share this same with them?

Mulgrew says I have problems with social interactions and can relearn these skills. I believe I am not the one who needs to learn better social skills.

This log has carried on for five minutes and thirty seven seconds. I feel another twenty three seconds should provide sufficiency.

I hate this.
