All Hallow's Eve

Halloween is a holiday I never really understood. My father, Serran anyway hadn't been much help in explaining it. The whole idea seems foreign to me.

The little research I've done told me that it had its origin in pagan culture, with a little old Catholicism thrown in for good measure.(Which is confusing in and of itself. According to the Terran Bible, we are supposed to be saved by Grace. If that is the case, and I have to admit I'm a skeptic, why are some people saints and others not?

I don't talk to Serran much about religion, but if I did, I'm sure he would say that wasn't logical. I think he's probably right about that, but I have to ask myself if Christianity, or any religion for that matter is based on logic.

I also don't talk to my dad about my questioning my sexual identity, but my reluctance to talk about that is for a much different reason and probably something for a different journal entry.

Anyway back to the whole Halloween thing.

As far as I can tell, it had once been a pretty dangerous holiday way back in Terran history, but it has evolved into something mostly harmless. It was a way for kids, mostly younger ones, to collect goodies, mostly candy.

It wasn't one I've ever celebrated before and I'm unlikely to ever go trick or treating. For one thing, I'm too old for that kind of thing. For another where would I go on board the Galileo?

I thought I might at least check out something in the holodeck where I could at least put on a costume, or if I'm really adventurous(which I have to admit is tempting as hell) try exploring what it was like when Halloween was really scary and dangerous.

That too will have to wait for a different time, as Serran is coming home soon and he has an entirely different idea for a holodeck thing.
