Setting Up Shop

[ON]

Sera walked into her quarters with her ‘seabag’ and placed it on the ground near the seating area. The space was…small, and apparently meant to be…shared? Sera raised a brow as she took in her new home. Her quarters on Juneau had been far more spacious…but then, everything on that ship had been larger than life.

“Irrelevant.” Sera said aloud in a chastising manner, sounding a bit like her mother in the process. Well, that was a sobering thought.

She walked about the floor plan but did not see any signs of another inhabitant. Perhaps she was alone here for the time being?

She studied the small sleeping area held two beds, configured in a vertical manner. She recalled such a configuration of sleeping platforms in the barracks of Wuh os Klomak – the ancient fortress that was her clan’s hereditary stronghold…and her home.

She walked over to a desk that held a person comm station and took a seat. It was time for the self-flagellation that she had taken part in ever since leaving Jia'anKahr.

She entered in the coordinates where she wanted the subspace message to be sent and began recording.

“Ko'mekh-il, wanted to inform you that I have arrived at my new assignment since my departure from Vulcan. It was unfortunate that I was not granted permission to visit with you prior to receiving new orders. Unfortunately, the time and distance involved in this posting is quite significant so I am uncertain when I will have another opportunity to see you again.”

Sera paused, considering what to discuss in this subspace message. She had often sent such messages to T’Ael—her foremother—however, she had never received a reply. It had been 6 years of such silence since leaving for Earth. A statistically significant amount of time given her age; 13.3% of her short life.

It hadn’t bothered her overmuch when Viruk was alive. Ill-suited or not, she was never alone with their bond – so such things as silence did not elicit an emotional response. However, since her mate’s death…

“Aeh hru'nanov. Dhroi. Hveolhaonn am eial.” (Please, foremother, answer. It is quiet here/I am alone.) She spoke in a language that her foremother had taught her as a child. T’Ael had told her one time that she had never taught anyone else this…just Sera. This message was a first; Sera had never attempted this before; however, meeting the Romulan science officer at the banquet had awoken the language within her mind.

The small voice within her lamented. She will not answer. She has not spoken to you since your mother forbade you from associating with her anymore…and you complied.

It was an emotional admission. One that would be admonished by any of her other family members, but perhaps her foremother would understand.

Sera continued in a language that was NOT Vulcan. ”I have met a science officer…he is Rihannsu. I…find him fascinating.” It was quite an admission. Perhaps that would pique T’Ael’s interest. Perhaps it was the hook to get her to respond. It was a gamble.

“If you would care to know more, please let me know. I would find it most agreeable to tell you about our shared introduction.” Sera ended.

“Computer end recording. Send message.” The comm unit chirped in compliance and a confirmation message scrolled across saying the message had been sent.

No doubt it would be intercepted from someone in her family. Perhaps being so honest wasn’t the best strategy. She shrugged in a helpless manner. The die had been cast. It could not be walked back. Kaiddth.
