251 words; about a 1 minute read

"Once there was a barren island that nothing grew upon. One day as the wind was blowing a set of seeds were being carried along. One seed decided to lodge in the craggy rocks and said to others, "I think I will grow here!"

The other seeds refused to stay. "There is nothing here, it is barren."

The seed ignored them and began to grow, sending down roots and lifting up leaves.

The wind blew, the sea splashed and the rain fell. The seed had become a tree and every so often the wind would bring more seeds and they would say, "You won't last long, it is a bad place to be."

The seed now a tree ignored the rest and grew and grew and then had seeds of its own which dropped onto the barren ground and they took hold. A began to grow. Soon a small grove with one big tree and several smaller trees. Insects came upon the wind bringing seeds from elsewhere and settled and soon the barren rock was transformed into a lush jungle.

One day, across the sea, travelers came and found the island now covered in beautiful flowers and lush growth and settled. They in turn sent others to explore further but in their clothing were other seeds carried from that place on to the next one or carried by the wind to other barren islands.

All because on brave seed decided to grow when the others said it could not be done."
