"Ensign Callin's personal log...insert date and time, blah blah blah, you know the usual drill Computer..."

"I'm here! On board the USS Galileo-A. Strange word, Galileo, so I looked it up in the historical database. I have to say that it seems nicely prophetic in some ways, troubling in some others. This namesake had made some pretty serious advances in human science, but then was persecuted because of it, was even locked away for years because of his beliefs."

"Then there have been seven ships that have carried the same name, or at least shuttles. A lot of those were involved in some pretty dramatic events, pushing back the boundaries of known science, but them meeting an untimely end. Let's hope that there isn't some sort of galactic joke against this name, dooming us all eventually! Heh...yeah. I'm more than a little curious what happened to this ship's immediate predecessor of course."

"Anyway, that leads me to something else. Two somethings, actually! First, apparently our captain, Lirha Saalm, was arrested and imprisoned not so long ago and it might have something to do with the loss of the last Nova-Class Galileo. I'm not generally one for rumors but this is pretty huge, and if people just happen to broadcast their thoughts on it really loud, one couldn't blame me for listening. I hope."

"But even better! The person who told me about the rumor is Sofie! We were classmates at the Academy together, and she was one of my closest friends during those years. I'm a bit ashamed to say I didn't even realize this is where she'd been posted to after graduation, but with her usual grace she didn't seem to hold it against me. Gods, but it is good to see her again!"

"It makes coming on board this ship a lot less intimidating, which I definitely need. I figured after all that time running errands for Urrovo after the Academy I was one-hundred percent ready to be out here in space, taking on these responsibilities. And I am ready, I just hadn't expected the nervousness I guess. Seeing Sofie's smiling face, knowing there's someone on board that I can talk to, that I don't have to hold back as much as usual with...I hope she knows how much that means to me."

"I think I'll look into the cultural exchange databases, see if there have been any recent Romulan dramas to come out during their reconstruction. I bet she'd be glad to check out a performance if we can track down a good recording of a play - though, I gotta admit, I find Romulans to be a bit..."

"Intense. I'm gonna leave it at that, think about one Romulan in particular a bit more, but I try and sort any of that out into a log. Ha! Maybe I'll write my own drama soon."

"Computer, end log."
