Captain's Log, Stardate 68590.4

Today is launch day for USS Galileo and her crew. I've spent the last week working with the original test crew and yard engineers to take care of all final inspections but much work remains. Our internal systems have been functioning well during all our simulations, but simulations can only take us so far. The best test for a new science vessel is...scientific investigation itself.

The last of our remaining crew have been vetted and are scheduled to arrive within the next hour or two. Launch is scheduled for 1930 which leaves...approximately three hours for the late-comers to report for duty and stow their belongings. Along with personal luggage, our cargo stores have been topped off to help us endure this long six-month journey. Nevertheless, we will need to resupply underway sometime near the mid-point of our journey.

As the minutes continue to pass, I can't help but reflect on my life six months ago compared to now. I'd never dreamed, after so many challenges, trials and days spent incarcerated, that I would ever live to see another Federation starship launched from spacedock. Let alone sit in the captain's chair of one again. But here I am, and here we are -- ready for another chapter into the unknown.

Computer, end log
