Rambling Thoughts

Posted on 31 Mar 2018 @ 11:59am by Lieutenant Amaranai Franklin

338 words; about a 2 minute read

Amaranai sat in what could be considered the officer’s lounge. The Schofield wasn’t much of a ship and its lounge was nothing to write home about. Not that she was writing home to anyone at the moment. And the one family member that she did talk to didn’t seem keen on talking to her at the moment.

Amaranai and Charlotte had gotten into an argument before the officer had reported for her shift that day and Amaranai had yet to go back
to their shared quarters. It wasn’t as if Charlotte didn’t have a valid reason for being upset, it was just that there was nothing her sister could do about the situation. Since Amaranai had been selected for the Galileo-A, and that crew needed to man the Schofield, Charlotte had to come as well. It wasn’t as if Charlotte could have been left alone at the shipyards. Despite her rehabilitation and change in attitude, Amaranai still worried that Charlotte could slip into her former self at any moment.

And that was why she was in the lounge, hoping to let the girl cool down before going back. She had had a couple of drinks and simply thought about her life. As Charlotte was the youngest, Amaranai felt the need to protect her. That was why she had taken her away from their family - to keep her safe. And it was killing her that she couldn’t be with her all the time.

Amaranai knew she had done a mild disservice to Charlotte by dragging out to the outer edges of the galaxy, but Amaranai also knew that Charlotte would benefit from the time away from their toxic family and in a more stable environment.

Not wanting to get herself too drunk before returning to her sister, Amaranai left the lounge and returned to their quarters. She found that Charlotte was asleep and rather than waking her up, chose to lay down next to the girl and fall asleep as well.
