Captain's Log, Stardate 66291.1

Starfleet has cleared Galileo-A for launch in five days and now the final preparations for departure begin. All major system tests have been completed but yard engineers continue to refine our warp field matrix for our new payload specifications. I'd have preferred this to be done a month ago but, as always, there were 'delays'. Like with our ordinance delivery which is now scheduled for Tuesday. It seems both USS Eldridge and USS Topeka needed the torpedoes more than us for some so-called 'expedited departure' priority.

The final crew interviews are underway and only ten remain. All of them will be complete by Sunday. I hope. The officers and NCOs I've evaluated so far are unique and talented, and they're very diverse. I suspect for some of them, being on a starship with so many non-Humans will be a surprise. A hopefully pleasant one since we have to endure seven months of isolation together while we transit to our new AO.

I find my final days before departure to be exciting yet cautious. Every captain knows -- inside themselves -- that these sort of fringe assignments are dangerous. The Age of Picard is over and we all remember so many of us who were lost in the great war just fifteen years ago. And now, with peace, the unknown can be just as dangerous. My crew is trained well and that will be their guidance. But for what we will face out there...I can only hope the spirits of fortune escort us to our destination.

Computer, end log
