The Cadet Cruise aboard the USS Hathaway had gone much better than Marisa expected. At least in one way. It convinced Starfleet that she could go back to work as a science officer. The official notification was waiting for her when she got back to her apartment. She did a little dance when she saw the message.

She had Pete's letter of recommendation, along with the ones from her other field assignments. She'd polished up her teaching resume, just in case she needed it. But in her heart, she still wanted to explore the galaxy. There would always be teaching opportunities. Especially if she kept up with her field and took an occasional sabbatical to work on a site.

Now, however, she had another problem. Along with the official letter of reinstatement, she was sent a list of ships that needed a Chief Science Officer. She had a choice of which one or ones she wanted to apply for. Two of them she discounted immediately. The USS Voyager would be fun, and she did like smaller ships, but the name was too famous, so she left that one alone. The other was the USS Galileo. At one time she would have jumped at the chance to serve aboard the Galileo, but with the crew disbanded and the Admiral in Australia serving out her sentence, Marisa didn't have the hart to apply. There would be too many memories of too many people. Most were good memories, but she was trying to heal and being reminded every day of Kreanus and the people she'd grown fond of would not be the best option.

Was she doing the right thing? Who knew? But there was only one way to find out for sure. She polished off her science resume and sent it to the other ships on the list. Surely one of them would accept her. Then, to take her mind off what she'd just done, she went out to go to a museum and then get some ice cream.
