"Once there was a fisherman named Polhioi that lived by the shores, but the fishing was poor and many time he went hungry. However there were a great many beautiful shells that would liter the beach and others would come to gather them to make decorations or use them to make various dyes for clothing.

The beach was remote and many times it would be shrouded in fog and mist.
And one day after having nothing to feed on for many a day, a thick fog rolled in. He lit a fire but heard the sound of others gather shells on the beach. He had listened and found he could imitate the sound of others and then made the sound of little ones, the wavering of an old one, the sound of a young girl. Soon one of the others came thinking that another group was here on the beach. One such was a young girl and she came into the circle of the fire.

"Where are the others?" the young girl asked.

"There are no others, just me. Do you see anyone else?" Polhioi said.

"But I heard young ones, girls, men, old ones?" she insisted.

"Look at the sand," Polhioi said, "do you see any other footprints?"

As the girl bent to look, Polhioi struck tossing his fishing net over her and killed the girl and feed on her then tossing her body into the ocean.

Polhioi got very good at luring others with his imitations to their doom.

It came to be that others would began to avoid the beach if they could, but the shells were valuable to them and so periodically they still came. However, they began to offer gifts to the gods asking for protection.

Polhioi was very hungry as it had been a long time since any had come and a long time since a thick fog had rolled in. However, from his lair in a cliff he heard the sounds of others and smiled as he watched seeing the fog begin to roll in. Soon enough, it was very thick and he left to lure an unfortunate to their doom.

Soon he began to call in his imitations of others, full conversations even in different voices, such that he had perfected his practice.

Soon enough a beautiful young maiden found him.

"Where are the others? she questioned.

"There are no others, just me."

"But I heard others, talking, laughing, there must be others!" she insisted.

"Take a look at the sand, do you see any foot prints other then mine and yours?"

The young maiden bent down to look and Polhioi moved to toss his net over her, but she was quicker and with a shell scooped a large amount of sand and tossed it in his eyes.

He cried out in the many voices he had learned to imitate as the sand and salt burned his eyes.

The maiden then took Polhioi and tossed him into the sea. "No more shall you prey on others."

Polhioi transformed into a set of fishes.

To this day though on fog shrouded beaches, if one stands there one can hear the sounds of voices, young and old, male and female still calling as the Polhioi come ashore remembering when they once were part of the land."
