Personality & Traits
General Overview | Intense, quick-witted and driven, Giada is a confident scientist and physician who goes from one challenge to the next. She is a work hard, play hard kind of person and has a can-do attitude about life.
Strengths | Committed, high energy, driven and always willing to find a way, Giada is an encouraging team player. Within her spheres of expertise she is adaptable and capable and firmly believes in the mission of medical science to improve the lives of everyone. She also has a strong sense of fairness.
Weaknesses | The flip side of her strengths is that Giada is demanding, sometimes impatient and has trouble sitting still or taking a break. She takes professional criticism relatively personally and has a competitive streak that comes out when she feels threatened.
Ambitions | Giada is looking for the next mountain to climb right now. With a strong publishing record behind her and good reviews as a civilian scientist in Starfleet, she is beginning to feel trapped by the limited opportunities available to civilians in Starfleet. She has not quite decided what to do about that.
Hobbies & Interests | Running, rock climbing, cycling, swimming, grav-ball and just about anything else active. Also reading, knitting and some current popular programming.

Personal History | Giada was born in 2351 in Rome, Earth, as the third child of Matteo and Eve Basile. She grew up between her father's home in Italy, and after her parents' divorce, her mother's home in London. Despite the fact her parents split when she was 6, she had a happy and active childhood and was close to both her parents. She was not as close to her brothers, but spent a lot of time trying to keep up with them and beat them at their own games. She did not choose medicine as her path until late in her first year of studies at the University of Toronto. She decided to go into medicine and threw herself into her schooling, making time only for the university swim team and her boyfriend, who she genuinely hoped to marry. Giada did well with her studies and swimming, but her boyfriend had more interest in fun than commitment. After finishing her studies, Giada completed a general surgery intership at Utopia Planitia's combined Starfleet and civilian medical facility. After a new strain of retrovirus was unleashed on the facility as a result of a radiation leak in an experimental engine, Giada became fascinated with molecular genetics. She saw it as surgery at the level of DNA. She completed a PhD in molecular biology at John Hopkins University on Earth and applied for a shipboard scientist position in Starfleet. |
|
Starfleet History | In 2381, fresh out of her doctoral studies, Giada applied to for a scientist position in Starfleet. She was successful and won a civilian researcher position with Starfleet Science Branch on Starbase 82. Giada was promoted to Researcher II in 2387 and took a position onboard the USS Galileo as the ship's molecular biologist.
