Personality & Traits

General Overview Despite the problems with Starfleet in his past, Tony is happy as an engineer in the service. His mood is almost always upbeat and when not on duty he can often be found in the ship's lounge or wherever a party or other social gathering is happening.
Strengths Tony is extremely confident in his abilities as an engineer. He has good organizational skills, probably due in large part to his near-photographic memory and is also well versed in damage control.
Weaknesses While Tony could probably take a shuttle or fighter apart and re-assemble it almost with his eyes closed, his ability to pilot such craft could be described as negligible at best. One of his favorite sayings is ‘Manelli’s my name – engineering’s my game.’ Tony, as befitting his heritage, is sometimes quick-tempered and this has gotten him into a few scrapes at times. He is also prone to ‘think outside the box’ at times and this sometimes proves to be a negative as well as a positive to him.

Ambitions Tony hopes to one day regain the rank of Commander that he once held and to be a Chief Engineer aboard a ship-of-the-line.
Hobbies & Interests Tony enjoys holovids and interactive holodeck programs, especially those based on Earth’s naval and space history.

Vernacular Tony's speech is deliberate most of the time and usually delivered with only a faint hint of an Italian accent. However, when he is excited or angry, the accent becomes more pronounced and he has been known to slip in a word or phrase of the Italian language into his speech during those times before correcting himself.
Orientation Heterosexual
Language(s) Spoken Tony speaks 6 different languages – Federation Standard, Italian, Klingon, Orion, Vulcan, and some Romulan.

Personal History Tony's family originally came from a small town called Noceto, near Parma in the northern part of Italy, but he was actually born in San Francisco in 2357. He is the second son born to Angelo and Giada Manelli and the oldest 9(by fifteen minutes) of a set of twins. His parents were successful restauranteurs and had hoped Tony would join the family business, but he had chosen Starfleet instead.

In 2387 shortly after arriving aboard the USS Vienna, Tony met and later married Lieutenant Angelica Wilson, the daughter of Daniel Wilson a highly-placed Starfleet admiral. At this point in time Angelica was a medical officer working toward becoming a fully qualified physician.

Tony was reduced in rank from Commander to Lieutenant JG while serving aboard the USS Vienna following a court-martial where he was convicted of the charge ‘Conduct detrimental to the good of Starfleet – specifically Disobedience of Orders’. The charges stemmed from an incident involving his girlfriend (later wife) Angelica Wilson. She had been kidnapped by an old enemy of her father who was Admiral Dan Wilson.

She was missing for approximately three months and, during the time she was being held captive by this madman, she was repeatedly raped and tortured, which caused significant physical and mental damage. Once she was recovered, she was placed in the vVienna’s sickbay under the care of Commander Georgia McCray, the ship’s CMO and Lieutenant Taryn Madison, the ship’s counselor. After several weeks of treatment, both physical and mental, Angelica felt that she was ready to leave sickbay and go home to hers and Tony’s quarters, but when Tony broached the subject, both the CMO and the counselor rejected the idea. So Tony contacted Angelica’s father (who had always given his only child anything she wanted) completely bypassing the ship’s chain of command in the process, and told him what was happening. Admiral Wilson then sent Tony an encrypted message containing the security codes for the Vienna whih he used, in conjunction with help from the Vienna’s Chief of the Boat, to beam Angelica out of sickbay and directly to their quarters. For this, he was summarily court-martialed, convicted, and reduced in rank from Commander to Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Shortly after being transferred to the USS Solace in 2389, Tony’s wife petitioned for a dissolution of their marriage on the ground of ‘irreconcilable differences’. Tony suspected, but never knew for sure that the ‘irreconcilable differences’ was the fact that she now out-ranked him and being married to a lieutenant JG was not nearly as prestigious for an admiral’s daughter as being married to a commander was, so the dissolution was not contested by him and was quickly granted.

Starfleet History Tony applied for admission to Starfleet Academy and was admitted in 2376 as part of the graduating class of 2380. He graduated in the top 10 percent of his class which allowed him to have his choice of initial assignments and he chose Starbase 34 where he served for the next 2 years, followed by a posting to Armstrong Base on Luna for 1 year. After that, he was assigned to the USS Samuel B. Roberts, where he served for two years. Prior to leaving the Roberts, he was promoted to Lieutenant. He next served aboard the USS Iwo Jima, a cruiser on station near the Kzinti border. While aboard the "Iwo", Tony was wounded in action while the ship was under attack by a Ferengi Marauder. During this battle, Lieutenant Commander Mara Laval, their chief engineer, was killed. With radiation poisoning becoming a threat, Manelli as senior surviving engineering officer, ordered main engineering to be evacuated until he was able to get everything under control. He WAS able to regain control of everything but not before being exposed to the radiation, This required a six-week stay in a radiation sickness facility followed by surgery for the scars cause by the radiation. For his actions, he was awarded the Purple Heart and a promotion from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander

He next served aboard the USS Vienna, a diplomatic liaison ship where his service was deemed exemplary by the ships commanding officer Captain Douglas Roberts. Because of this, along with his exemplary record and efficiency rating of excellent by Starfleet Corps of Engineers, he was promoted to the rank of Commander, a rank he held until the incident which resulted in his court-martial. Following the court-martial and reduction in rank, Tony’s next posting was to the USS Solace, a hospital ship, for 2 years beginning in 2389.

In 2391, upon the decommissioning of the Solace, Tony was ordered back to Starfleet Command to await further reassignment
Medical History In 2364 at the age of 7, Tony contracted the mumps and in 2366 at age 9 a case of chicken pox. In 2369 while climbing a tree he fell out and broke his arm. Other than these instances there have been no significant incidents in his medical history.
